View Full Version : Eastern Blacknecks
I finally have some photos of my favorite garters!
I did not take a new photo of Tiger since I don't think I can beat the ones that I already have! She is a huge girl at just under 3 feet and could probably down an adult mouse but I won't give her anything larger than a hopper or a weanling. She produced 12 babies this year. I could not get 2 started and they are at Wayne's house along with one of only 3 males in the litter.
The father of all the Eastern Blackneck litters for the last 3 years is Billy Bob. After a good musking and a few bites this is what we could get!

And finally my beloved Cheetah died last year and by chance I had held back one of her daughter's from her only clutch. Well I bred Cub back to Billy Bob and this last weekend she surprised me with 3 live born, one baby that never absorbed the yolk and did not make it out of its sac and a bunch of slug soup! I am thrilled with her babies and I hope that they will eat as well as Tiger's brood has been eating. Here's Cub.

Hi everyone! I purchased a beautiful pair from Joanna and received them yesterday. Today, I fed them both in a little feeding bin together with some pinkie parts scented with pacific tree frog slime and threw in some live guppies. They both ate it all including pinkie parts (perhaps the frog slime helped). Good luck Wayne with the trouble feeders and thank you Joanna! You are an awesome person to correspond and deal with and I am so grateful to have my new little babies!
Here is a pic I took of one of Mojo's babies right after being fed. ;-)

WOW that a nice pic......
Yay Karen! I am thrilled they took pinky parts already. I fed the remaining 7 I have from that group tonight and 3 took pinky parts with their fish. I was thrilled.
I have a second group that I tried to feed but they are not interested and since they were only born last Sunday it is still very early.
Love that photo Karen!

Gawd, those are awesome. Hope to have some for myself someday.
Yay Wayne! I am thrilled the other two ate. I hope they pan out for you and then you will have 1.3! I knew the boy would eat, he was one of my first eaters. I bet if you put tadpole mush on pinky parts he will eat that too!

I hope it pans out too, I was blessed to find any small tadpoles at all in the middle of August & during a dry spell with all my mud holes dried out but one.

Not even that. It has been suggested that at certain times of the year, the T. radix ranch transforms into the "chicken ranch", or my personal favorite "The Mustang Ranch" for garter snakes. Nope. They got that too.
Try again!:p

She's playing hard ball Joanne... The tadpole died yesterday. I left her with it for 6 hours.
She still has good mass to her, so I'm not real worried yet.
If still no luck this week, I will try a newt.

The little girl with the bad eye looks about the same after her shed, but it does not seem to bother her, she's active and eating.

I´ve started keeping Garters about 20 years ago and want not stop for at least further two decades.
Wow she is a porker! I have two girls that are still here pending completion of a payment and I can not get them to accept anything that is not alive. aargh!
My girl Cheetah that died last year was a calm snake but my others are not. Then again I don't handle them that much. If they weren't so beautiful I am not sure I would still be breeding them! Their musk is the worst musk I have had the pleasure of experiencing!

That male baby I got from you this year is really calm by baby snake standards too.
I'm not really big on handling snakes, I like observing them through the glass.
Mojo was really skittish, but two years of getting fed outside her enclosure fixed that, if she wants to eat, she has to let me pick her up. ;)

Quick update on the babies.
They are now eating XS pinkies scented with trout.
The male is for whatever reason growing much faster than the girls are, but thats fine, I can pair him up with Mojo next season.
New pics sometime soon.

She died a few weeks ago, I'm not upset over it, she had a good life even if it was extremely short. I think that growth was malignant, it kept getting bigger, then she expired.
The other 3 are very vibrant and excellent eaters.

So sorry about the girl with the growth on her eye - I'm glad she had the time she had.
I wonder if I missexed the snakes and the "male" that is growing fast than the females is actually a female! I hope you have at least one male there! Let me know and I will make it up to you this year if I did make a mistake.

My scrubs are still on live fish, patties’, guppies and Danios.
However, today while doing some land clearing I came across three green tree frogs, snatched them up and my Blacknecks devoured them so fast. Amazing. I wish I could get frogs more often.
