I fed the four hold backs new food which was f/t bass chunks and f/t spring peepers and they loved them! IT was to easy!

hmmmmmmmmmm............. Well the thing is I'll need to get some extra room and I'm kind of on the edge if i really want to go through with it or not.

THESE GUYS ARE ALWAYS HUNGRY:eek:! I hope freezing the spring peepers kills off parasites.........

If you freeze them long enough, they say it will.
A couple days won't do it. I've read recommendation of as long as 3 months.

I can only hope they didn't have parasites, i had them in there for two weeks:eek:....

I think the 3 month time period is best case scenario. You know, for some of the more nasty parasites. I will try and find the paper/s I read about freezing and parasite control.
I hope they are clean also.

do you know any symptoms of parasites????!!

Most of the time there are no symptoms. A snake can live a long healthy life with them. However, if they are hurting the snake, such as a bad infestation of tape worms can, then common symptoms would be poor appetite, weight loss, (malnourishment) watery and/or bloody feces, and lethargy. Left unchecked this can of course result in death.

Other types of worms cause liver cysts or burrow into other organs, causing the organs to fail, so the only likely symptom would be a sick (or not) snake that just up and dies.

I can tell you that any WC snake is sure to have parasites but more often than not, it doesn't have an obvious affect on the snake's health. I had a pair of concinnus that live to be around 20 years old. I fed them WC frogs, tadpoles, fish, etc. their entire lives (I didn't know any better) so I'm sure they had parasites. It just didn't cause any health problems. Now, if a snake has them, and gets ill for some other reason, the parasites can get out of control due to a taxed immune system.

At one of my concinnus hot spots, they are feeding almost entirely on bullfrogs and newts. I did get a snake there that passed a tapeworm in the tank, and wouldn't eat and lost a lot of weight. Since that incident, I've seen several wild snakes in that area that look horribly undernourished.

CB can still have parasites. It can come from live fish, and a number of other food sources if you're not careful what you feed them. All it takes is to swallow a very tiny egg and since their food is raw, that can happen easily. Even raw fish meant for human consumption can have worm eggs in it. Doesn't hurt us 'cause we cook it. Whatever you feed them, if it's frozen at very low temperature for 90 days or so, the parasites or eggs won't survive.

How come the snakes stomach acids don't melt these parasites?
