I was walking along a creek, and I came across this little girl. She's so tiny, I wouldn't be surprised if she was born on the day I found her.I didn't think she'd survive on her own, so I took her home. Given her mutations, I'm not sure whether she'll survive at all. What do you think? - She has a kink, an underbite, and she's missing an eye, but she's still incredibly cute. She's very fast and fiesty. She actually tried to bite me, believe it or not.
I haven't tried feeding her yet, but I purchased guppies and will try either later this evening or tomorrow.
If anybody has any ideas for names, please let me know. :)

Slugs and earthworms/night crawlers are on her menu. Not a fish eater.

Find that little one some slugs.
I'm pulling for her.

She's not a newborn. Since she made it this far you have a good chance at extending her life. In her condition she wouldn't last much longer in the wild. The odds are against them even with 2 eyes. Compound that with her other disabilities and the deck is stacked against her.
Nice save. Thanks for taking the time to notice her and being concerned enough to do something.
How about the name BELL from Beauty and the Beast her being more on the beast side(no offense intended. I would take her and care for her in a second)

Awwww! Poor snake! At least it has a loving owner to love her and take care of her! I hope she survives for a long time! She is too cute!

You've given me a lot of hope, I've become pretty attached to her already, and would hate to see anything happen to her. Thank you. :)
I'll look for worms and slugs, but I'm pretty sure that she's an eastern garter. Other than her disfigurements, she's practically identical to the garters I had born to my rescue female last summer.
"Bell" is a nice name, I'll definitely add it to my list for consideration.
How can you tell that she's not a newborn? (I'm not contesting your statement, I'm just curious about your reasons behind it)

She kinda looks like the dekayi that another member had found, to me she doesn't look too much like an eastern garter. I could be wrong, though. if your willing to spend the money, most stores that carry bait carry some night crawlers. you could cut those up into tiny bits for her :)

You are right. It is not a dekayi. Sorry about that. I was so focused on her deformities I looked right passed everything else.

definitely an eastern garter snake! what an odd looking little baby! I have never even seen one born deformed before... let alone found one! She is a lucky snake, as I doubt she would have gotten much further in the wild.

Oh, poor little thing. Do your best. You're the only chance he has.
As far as names go, why not explore a list of famous people with underbites? Perhaps "Mr. Leno" for a male, "Mrs. Obama" for a female?

OK, maybe not.
But anyway, that little snake is soooo lucky that you were the one to find it. At any moment, it could have been a hungry predator.

There is only one name for this little tyke, it been mentioned in the two earlier replys spinal kink. One eye. Deformed mouth, and yet she manages to get herself rescued . It has to be lucky

I got to thinking he kind of looks like a snake version of a hillbilly, then I found this very humorous "wiki style" page.

If it proves to be a survivor, I'd name it Merrick after Joseph Merrick, who courageously faced deformity, and still managed to charm many.
I hope it thrives under your protection!

Thank you all for your name suggestions! I've decided to call her Lucky. It's a short cheery name that fits her well. :)
Lucky hasn't eaten yet. I tried guppies but she was too freaked out from the feeding bucket to eat any. I did buy baby night-crawlers today and am going to try cutting some pieces of those for her. I shouldn't have to move her from her enclosure for that so I'm hoping my chances of getting her to eat are greater. We'll see tomorrow. Wish me luck! :D

I've had a few radixes like that. I've had pretty good success with moving the fed container to a low or no traffic room or covering the container with a towel.
Sometimes it takes over night but most of the time you have a full bellied snake in the morning.

In those cases, did you use guppies or worms? Did you put a hide or anything in the feeding container? I put Lucky in the feeding container with some worm bits for a good 5-6hrs but she still didn't eat anything. She left a little poop in the food container so she may just not be that hungry yet. I'll try again tomorrow.

My feed containers are small. I use a small round ziplock container, the kind with the screw on lids. I use worms or guppies or both together. Small containers mean the snakes come in contact with the food as they move around the container. There is no room for anything but a snake and its meal.
I drill some very small hole in the lid and a couple inches from the bottom for ventilation.
Good luck.

Bad news. :( I found Lucky dead in her water dish this morning. I don't know why or how she died. I doubt she drowned because the water dish wasn't too big. She hadn't eaten yet...I hate to think she could have starved. I tried many times to get her to eat, but she just wouldn't take it! She had trouble recognizing the worm-pieces as food. Since she was missing an eye I guess the food was in her sight only half the time as it would be for a normal snake. I only had her for two weeks, but I'm still pretty upset right now.

Dont worry about it, it is hard and it upsets me too because I was hoping for her to live and grow up. There's just something special about deformed snakes that makes me hope they'd grow up and live like regular ones. At least lucky had such a caring owner for the 2 weeks you had her. You did everything you could for her, and I think most people wouldn't have even given her a second glance, but you decided to give her a chance at life. It's not your fault, it's completely out of your control. I think what you did is very commendable. I hope you feel better :)
