That should take care of any bugs and depending on the wood should give your place a nice smell:D

I'm thinking tumeric and paprika to bring out the smokiness of the wood

I had to remove 2 Cherry Trees last year so I've got a lot of wood. The house smells great, especially when I forget it's in the oven.:D

Am I going to be horrified at everything that crawls out of it?

Well I can safely say there is nothing living in that piece of wood I just took out of the oven :|

I use nicely sun-bleached driftwood from the Columbia River or Salmon Creek. There's never any bugs in it, and there's no need to bake.

Despite me living on the south coast, driftwood is rare :(
