It's official. 27 years of Law Enforcement is over. I finished my career on Thursday. I still need to turn in some equipment but I'm as happy as can bewith leaving. Looking forward to doing something else. I will miss working with the youth of our area but I had to call it quits sometime. Here in Iowa we can retire as young as 50. I waited until I was 51 but still feel blessed to have had a great career. I have 10 years until all my kids are grown and I want to spend as much time with them as possible.
It's time to break out the bikes and kayaks.

Steve! Congratulations you lucky dog!
I hope you were thrown a big nice whoop-de-do to celebrate! What are your plans (besides the kayaks and bikes)? a second career? part time job? Volunteer work? I know you'll spend lots of time with your children but you must have some other plans brewing as well??? I know with the fans you have on this forum you could open a bed and breakfast at your house and always have company from us silly snake people! Wow! what a milestone! Good Job!!!:)

Congrats! Now you'll have more time for herping! I suspect there might be a population explosion with your snakes because of that. ( You take tubs for snakes wherever you travel, right?) How many snakes are you up to??? A thousand??? A million????

After you get done relaxing and enjoying your own scrubs, here's an idea. How's about traveling about and educating different groups on the truth versus the myths of snakes. Sounds like a job right up your alley! Your wonderful kids might like it too.

Congratulations again and have some fun. You deserve it!

Way to go Steve! That's quite the length of service- one of the upsides is early retirement. One of the appealing things I want to get back into the military for. I'm just afraid how many more snakes you're gonna submerse yourself with. Maybe time to start a fostering program.

Thank you for all your comments.
I'm looking forward to life outside of Law Enforcement.
I plan on spending as much time as possible with my kids and snakes. And of course, all the other critters that cross our path.

Congrats!

Now that you're retired you realize you have an obligation to make your snake collection larger and of course you now have time to take, and post, a lot more pics lol

Congratulations! And even though I do not live in Iowa (my parents do though), thank you for your many years service in a tough and often underappreciated job.

So did you receive some kind of crazy life or death call your last day on the job, or do I just watch too many cop movies? :)

Yes..................... you watch too many cop shows:D

No, nothing like that. I've been on lite duty from a shoulder injury and the day the Dr. released me for full duty I retired. Cleaned out my vehicle and went home.:)

The final nail in my work coffin came today.
My retirement part was a lot of fun. Many old students, teacher and school administrators showed up. It was a good time.
My office gave me a $240.00 Mastercard. I wonder how many pinkies that will buy:D
