here's the heap

took Bugsy to Sean for a look, and he doesn't see any reason to do anything
I'm hoping that perhaps it won't be so extreme after he sheds
I think Mina (the mother) did very well for her first litter; there were a couple of jelly beans also. the babies are a good size and look sturdy

thank you for the compliments
I like them
has anybody here ever had one with such pronounced bug eyes?
and if so, how do they fare?
the others will be for sale once they've had a few of meals

Rhea,
Are the eyes fully developed on the one? Can the snake see? Those eyes look like the eyes on an albino. Pupils react to light?
In any event a special snake.:)

the way the eyes look is as though there are large clear domes filled with clear slightly pinkish liquid over what appears to be normal eyes. There is response to visual stimuli, and I believe the pupils are moving, although it's a bit hard to see exactly what's going on, given that my own eyesight is poor, particularly n the area of depth perception.
Mikhaila is attached to Bugsy, so he (most likely he) is not available
I have to say that they are looking nicer the second day, with some of the dorsal stripes turning a more glowy yellow
I normally don't do this quite so soon, but because they're not mine they were offered food today - only a couple of them even showed interest; they do look nice and well-fed, so there's no urgency

Amazing eyes! They look like rose quarts or amethyst cabochons!
I have a 'snake' with similar eyes, but its a piece of jewelry!
This artist makes lovely Celtic Jewelry and the used to make this; Snake Torc neckrings Crafty Celts (http://www.craftycelts.com/torcs/snake.html)
As an upper arm bracelet with gemstone eyes- I have one with Peridot eyes and the resemblance is uncanny- I'll have to try to take a picture.

Nice looking babies. I also wonder the one will still look that way post shed. Hopefully it's just some fluid trapped under the old skin. Not likely but ya never know.

Congratulations! It's a nice first litter. :)
Sorry I can't help with the eyes, I have no experience with it...

Rhea, can you get and post a closeup of those eyes?
adamanteus

It is possible that it could just be fluid between the surface of the eye and the brille, in which case the eyes would return to normal when the snakes sloughs.

Wow, I've never seen anything like that. It looks like there may be a lot of ocular/cranial pressure. Even the skin between the eye and skull has pushed out. Any chance you can get a Vet. to take a looks at her.
Other than the eyes is everything else normal(attitude, tongue flicking, movement)
Beautiful snake. Best of luck.

As Steve has said, she is a beautiful snake. Hopefully everything works out for the best. At least she has a loving family;)

not to sound cruel but this is one of those cases in which I would be considering getting the snake euthanized
drache

It's the very first thing I considered, and he was taking to Sean from the rescue, who has vastly more experience with snakes than I within a couple of hour of his birth for a second opinion
I was told that the snake looked otherwise healthy (he sure does) and that it didn't look any different from the bug eyes that often occur in leucistic rats

well as long as its healthy theres no reason not to keep him :) but it looks like a migraine from hell lol

A thread earlier had something similar but i cant find it(sorry) but the more i looked for it the more i remember it....i dont think the eye(s) had usefully parts (iris cornea ect) the eye(s) got big and hite and the vet had only done the operation 2ice...on a gopher (died) and corn(lived) the garter ended up making it...on the other eye theyre seems to be red could ya get a pic of it iv experianced bad bad things with blood filled eyes....when i was little and parents said no pet till A honnor roll i didnt care what it was but i wanted a pet....in burnet on one of my uncles ranch/farm we got a little channel cat from lake bucannon and he (my uncle) put it in a bucket and he put it in the cattle trough at his place....i named him slimy he lived for 5 years...whenever i went to burnet i always ran straight to the cattle trough to see him...once i put him in the kittypool and was playing with him and i noticed he was gettn slow and i noticed a litttle red vein/line thing on his fin and i put him back in the trough....the next day i took him out hopn hed get better and his eyes were filled with blood and put him back...the next day he died....i got two what we call mudcats(my uncle thinks theyre the invasive catfish caus channel catfish( which are the only catfish we release in the pond) cant reproduce in a pond and we find thees as babys and if we catch em (usually as adults we usually leave the babies thinkn bass food)he makes us throw em out over hill to die) i saved one he lasted for a year or two before suffering the same fate....a few years ago my uncle bought a fancy catfish from petco and brought it up to burnet with me and it dissapeared one night compleatly and that day we drained the trough(killn 100s of tadpoles (i saved as many as i could but i think they all died) lookn for him and he was no where in site... well anyways if the eye that is blocked from view on your snake looks as if its getn filled with blood or fogging up red i would worrry bout it...a lot...thanks for letn me remanence the days of youth...ill post a pic of slimy on nature thread sooner or later.
DONT TURN ON BRIGHT LIGHTS NEAR HIS EYES AT NIGHT THEY WILL THAKE FOREVER TO ADJUST AND PROBABLY HURT WHEN DIALATING!!!!!!!!!!!! oh and round off any sharp object that are big its just askn for self inflicted pain...keep me updated im mistified by this snake!

they ate last night, except for one
six had trout (including Bugsy)
three had pinky strip
yup - one of them had both
hard to find worms in this heat, but I guess that's what that last hold-out wants

would it be possible to see a video of Bugsy? I do not doubt that he is a healthy little guy, I would just like to see him in action. This little guy has really attracted my interest.
I hope the holdout feeds soon.
Goodluck!

I was thinking the same thing but it's always worth a try to save them. He seems to be very popular. I mean, if he's eating and otherwise seems healthy, why not let him live? I usually only cull babies that are obviously suffering, or not eating and wasting away. Even kinked babies at least get a chance with me. IF I were to cull, I'd prefer to find someone who has a snake eating herp or pet so that it isn't a total waste.

Bugsy's eyes seem to be changing
I am not sure what's going on with him, but he's still acting normal, and seems more robust than the non-eater, whom I am going to tempt with new and exciting foods today.
all the others had their second meal and are ready for new homes, so I'll take new photos later and start a for sale thread
