Same as Don, San Frans top the list but also Eastern Indigo, Yellowtailed Cribo, Mussarana, California Red Sided, Puget Sound Garters. I'd love Western Hognosed & Bullsnakes but we aren't allowed to keep them in Alberta as they're protected native species...

I do also currently keep many that were on my list years ago like Brazilian Rainbow Boas, Cape Gophers, Black Pines, Goins Kingsnakes, Northern Pines & a few others. Basically everything I keep has been a dream snake of mine at some time or other (and currently are). I don't see a point in me personally keeping anything unless it's a species I'm passionate about or find very interesting. I'm also easily impressed when it comes to reptiles though lol.

Tetrataenia????? Okay, that one I have to look up.

All my dream snakes involve either buying a rack ( cause I'm outta tank space! ) Or knocking out a wall and building a new room which may be problematic in a house made of American chestnut that dates back to the 1870s.

Anyway, my dream snakes are a bloodred and/or a stripe hypo corn with a really sweet temperment, a female paradox Kenyan sand boa, ( a wife for my Franco! I'm currently saving up for that! ) and a male wc garter that I find, not someone else finds for me, with a sweet disposition that I can name "Guido"! :)

Oh! And more blue garters!

OH! San Fran! Why didn't ya say so???!!! ( Excuse me. I'm still learning the Latin names for everything. My Dad would be ashamed that I didn't already know that! )

Well, duh yeah! Blue AND red???? Of course I would want that! But I also like being a law-abiding citizen.

Indeed. Also by far the most common snake where I live. Flip a board and find a dozen.

I find it hard to believe that with all the networking and resources of people on the forum that we can't find a way to get them there along with other garter snakes that people want, but can't get over there.

But you lucky people can have S.F. garters. I can only view them in the wild when in that area. So close, but can't have one.

adamanteus
07-15-2010, 04:04 PM
I guess we could get them out here, I had a wild caught group years ago. It's just the expense involved in shipping them nowadays, that causes the problem.

ConcinusMan
07-15-2010, 05:17 PM
Yeah, to ship them it would be very expensive. What if someone in the U.S. was going to the UK anyway and wanted to bring some with him? I don't even have a clue how this works.

Laura
07-15-2010, 05:18 PM
Yeah someone sort it out please ;)

We're almost totally deprived over here!

ConcinusMan
07-15-2010, 05:21 PM
yeah, I'm more interested in what options there are so we can get some snakes there without spending thousands of dollars to do it. Giving snakes away for free is fine, but I sure as heck wouldn't go thousands in the hole to get them there.

Laura
07-15-2010, 05:22 PM
Simple, move here ;)

Problem solved.

ConcinusMan
07-15-2010, 05:32 PM
yeah, that would be much less expensive. I can't even afford to move across the street. If i moved there, you would have me, and my stuff. What I'm trying to figure out is what is involved if I want to bring my snakes with me.

adamanteus
07-15-2010, 05:37 PM
It'a a very real problem, there are a few species/morphs that we simply can't get in Europe. Also, the tetrataenia are in demand in Canada (from the UK) but the shipping costs are horrific!

Forgive me if I seem out of line, but since when has camping & herping been illegal in any state??

nowhere in either of those two posts was any mention made of gathering or anything illegal??

just wondering where the reply came from??

Not illegal in Oregon but it really doesn't matter where you are, or are from, it would be illegal to take wild pugets from WA, yes. However, I made no mention of it. In fact, when kibakiba said "you might have to catch me one" I did say "don't bet on it."

I think this is just a case where Nate (Redspot) made an assumption without carefully reading what I actually said. No biggie.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to tend to my Marijuana crops, clean all my automatic assault weapons, stalk my ex, and blog about killing elected officials. Gotta be ready when wildlife enforcement shows up at my door in riot gear and a warrant for my car, house, office, storage, computer...

America is broke up into a jigsaw puzzle of laws that vary by state, county, species, etc.

Spankenstyne

It's not illegal in all of Canada.

Every Province has their own regs, with some municipalities and cities adding their own restrictions.

drache
07-21-2010, 05:12 AM
and then there is Brooklyn, where in some people's minds "legal" happens along a continuum ranging from legal to illegal via "not as illegal as that other one", "legal as long as they don't catch you", and "legit"

Spankenstyne
07-21-2010, 08:12 AM
