A couple months ago I found a small(first year) female radix outside the front door. She was in bad shape as she had some kind of skin infection.
I started daily treatments of silver sulfadiazine on her. Her sores healed up and after a couple sheds she looked great other than the scars. She was a good eater and became a docile girl.
Tonight I found her dead in her enclosure. I hoped I had her through any problems. It's depressing to lose these little ones. Looks like I may have cured the outward problems but that wasn't enough for this little scrub.
I've said it before that garter snakes are as "tough as nails". I also believe that once their immune systems are compromised they can pass rather quickly. They also don't show illnesses until it's too late to treat them. It's kind of a double edged sword.
