I have read and been told by people from a pet store (not that I trust the people at the pet store lol) that beef heart can be used as a food source. Has anyone else heard of this or tried it at some point?

I am not saying I want to feed this to my snakes so please don't say: "don't risk killing your snakes by trying to save money"...

I am simply curious about this :)

Thanks for reading,
Tyrel

beef heart has a ridiculous amount of phosphorus in it.

Then there is always the hormones and other chemicals used.
Around Thanksgiving time I give my snakes some turkey heart and liver.
Not all eat it but the ones that do seem to enjoy it.
It is a once in a great while food source.

thats what I figured Steve. I was thinking about this because there may be a different type of food, other than mice, someone could use to give their snake what fish and worms alone may be lacking. You can purchase free from meats (animals raised naturally) which would solve the chemical and hormone problem.

It just seems like some of the members here aren't as lucky as I am, being less than a mile from a pet store; so a different food source could be helpful if shipping is also a problem.

Have you heard of anything else used as food? and with any success?

I believe one of the European members feeds some organ food but I don't remember what it was and the frequency it was fed.
They will probably respond to the thread. I'll see if I can't find that original thread with that info.

That's not the one I was thinking about.
I think they were feeding some kind of poultry organ.

This isn't the thread I was looking for.
Is this the one you were thinking of Wayne?

Yep, I was wrong, it's caribou not elk.

I just read that whole thread, some hunting controversy in there.
