Hi

a few days ago my quad het female born 26 babies, 5 Stillborns

She lives with another radix female in the same enclosure.
Yesterday i found a dead baby ( the remains of a baby ) in the excrements of her.
Do anyone know about Cannibalism of Th. radix????
I donīt know how many sheīs still eaten, becuase the last two feedings she ignored it totally
I know that about Th. elegans and Th marcianus but Th. radix??????

I have heard of it. Are you sure it was digested? Was the female, that just gave birth, still in the same enclosure?

I find this rather curious, since the digestive tracts seem to liquefy mice and fish, so it just rather seems to me that if this baby had been consumed, there would be nothing recognizable in the excrement.

Can you be absolutely certain that she did not defecate on a stillborn?

Hi

yes, iīm sure that it wasnīt a stillborn.
I saw the other female bring out the excrements.

The babysnake wasnīt complete, because the head and a part of the body missed.

still - had it been eaten, it would not have passed in the stool in any recognizable condition

I have a similar situation occur with my girl Speckle. They were stillborns that were delivered well after the others.
They too looked like they were part of the feces but were just decayed bodies. They too came out in pieces, usually in halves or less.

I'm not saying it never happens(cannibalism) but with all the deliveries here on the Ranch with radixes, I've never seen it occur.
