I have now discovered that my squiggles worked their way under the reptile carpet and have snake tunnels underneath. Silly snakes!

some of mine do that, and then I wonder where the smell is coming from when their cage carpet looks so unsoiled on top

I have shredded aspen on top of the cage carpet for them to bury in. They decided to go under the whole thing. I was seeing little snake tunnels thru the aspen, then I noticed this really big dark one and realized it was under everything!

Now how and the heck can they make tunnels in aspen shavings? If it's dry like it should be, it would be like trying to make tunnels in dry sand.

aspen is perfect for tunnels, my concinnus also build tunnels in dry sand and everything they lived on ;)

All of my snakes have been quite capable at producing snake tunnels in the dry aspen. In fact, my big girl Stewie, at this moment, only has her head sticking out of it and my other big girl Midnight, is nowhere to be seen.
As for the squiggles, I have little heads poking out of just about everywhere!
