I have a year old albino checkered and a year old reg checkered. now i know the males will breed within a year, but the females won't usually... But she is alot bigger then when i first got her- eats like a pig, 2 fuzzies and 2 pinkies in one sitting- and so i was just wondering since there was alot of mating going on (May 21st) I've heard roughly 3 months brumation period?
So this will be my first time. is it even possible for her to be gravid? if so when it comes closer to pop time what should i do with her? put her in a separate container?

A year old is too young for breeding, most of the time.
My females(T.radix) seem to get fertile around 18-22 months.
I've never had any earlier than that.

Steve,
Have you had them try sooner than that? I was going to ask the same question, actually. Yesterday, I witnessed two of my squiggles "hooking up". They are siblings from last August. They definitely looked like they knew what they were doing! Like Wayne says, there was some "snake porn" going on in there!!!
Were they just "practicing" and nothing will come of it? I can guarantee that they are only 10 months old and did not brumate. Kinda caught me by surprise!

I house sibling together 1 year. Then they are separated by sex. Maybe it could happen but they are never together to try. My 20 month old first time moms had small litters, 6-8 babies.
I have 3 het males that I will put with Rita(red phase albino T.radix) early next year. They will be 15 month old at the time.

I'm only wondering if anyones been successful at a year or if they'll mate but not breed. my female is a pig and growing pretty fast.

If I remember right there are a few members that said their males were courting anytime they were with a female.. I've never seen anything like that with my radixes.
If the females are ready the males take an interest.
I've had many long talks with my snakes about causual sex. It's never a good idea I tell them.:D

Lol nice I havnt had that talk with mine yet so you never know. And so they won't mate unless the female is ready?

I'm not sure that is the case. I think there may be mating taking place but no fertilization if the female hasn't ovulated.
I'm guessing there are times when the male forces the issue.

I might be in trouble then:eek:
She certainly looked like she was "enticing" the male, her brother non-the-less!!!
"
Gonna have to have a talk with her... (another "tween" I need to have "the talk" with!!!) where does it end????

Well some might already know... but I proved this wrong... the females might have been at the most 13 months. The smaller one had 4 babies and the bigger one had 6 babies. So truth is... year olds can concieve :)

Still waiting on my biggest concinnus girl (3.2 foot) to have her babies. She shed today and of course, just like before, that frisky male was all over her!

My snakes are a year old and they mated, and Mama is possibly in labour. I'm a little doubtful of her being pregnant, but it's a possibility :) her tail end is slightly larger than it was this morning. She's either going to push out a couple babies... or a really big poo ;)

Well, she wasn't in labour I guess ;) but I did get a successful mating a couple days ago.
