Oh Happy Day! The little Nebraska Albino that I got from Don finally ate! Since this is my first baby I've been like an old mother hen! I got her on Saturday and she had eaten some trout on Friday. I know she didn't necessarily have to eat so soon but until I was sure she was eating and would be ok I haven't been able to help hovering over her. I so appreciate the knowledge base this forum offers. I have followed everything I've heard on here to make sure my snakes are being well cared for. For the little one I went fishing and caught 4 nice rainbow trout which I filleted and put in the freezer. I tried feeding her some chopped up, fresh trout and....nothing. I then went and bought a guppy and teased her with it and then finally left it swimming in her water dish...nothing. Last night I chopped up a nightcrawler and put it in her box with her. I came back 3 hours later and she had woofed it all down!! I am sooo pleased! Again, thanks everyone for all of the good advice on the forum.:D

My Amy (from Don) never refuses food. She attacks it like she hasn't eaten in a month! She ate the first time I offered her some silversides meat. Took a few months but I got her eating unscented pinky parts now and that's mostly what she gets. She just shed again right on schedule (every 6 weeks) and she's growing like a weed!

If this continues she'll be ready to breed in 2012. Won't be long after that, she'll be as big as my huge concinnus girls at the rate she's going.

I can't seem to find it now when I do a search but did someone mention recently that the SanFransisco Brand of Silversides at Petsmart are safe to feed? (or did I dream that!)

Get the Sally's if they have them. They are way higher quality.

Shannon once researched the matter and found that the SF brand was the only one that consistently had actual silversides and not some other small fish, and they're safe to feed
also they're just smelly enough to whet a snake's appetite

Other fish? Never seen that before. I just prefer the sally's. They smell fresher, they look like they're still alive, they're in great shape, firm, and they're pretty big. I've tried others and they just don't smell like fresh fish and they don't look as alive.

is Sally's yet another brand? if so, you better find out what kind of fish they label silversides because it really doesn't matter how fresh they look and smell if they carry thiaminase

umm...

The same fish I always see in a package labeled "silversides". 2-4 inches long, upturned mouth, silver stripe down their sides, yellowish above and lacking the adipose fin. And yeah, "Sally's" is a brand carried by Petco and they come in large flats. I recommend that brand. They look and smell like you just yanked them from the water alive. They are NOT supplemented.
