Not bad. Dangit, I saw this thread and thought you had a mate for Amy. *sigh*
My gravid red stripe ordinoides was seen "twitching" this morning. Nothing major, but I think she's getting close to that time.:D

Those black one's are really odd. No mutant genes in the parents? I mean, those look melanistic or possibly axanthic? Wow. They're different. New morph perhaps? I've never heard of concinnus that look quite like that. I hope they make it.
Overall though, a great lucking sturdy bunch.

no mutant genes I know of....mother is a w/c female that I got from a friend, the male is a son of hers from a few years back. no odd ones last year either.... hopefully they will do good!!!

Very strange. If you think about it, all mutated (abnormal) genes started with one or two snakes somewhere along the line. Maybe this is new and can be passed on.
Wait a sec, you said the male is a son of hers. Maybe she was het for this trait and the son ended up het too. Breed him back to mom and vioala! Homozygous babies.
Whatever happened, it's exciting to see. My jaw would have hit the floor if a "normal" pair of my snakes produced something like that. Congrats!
Now we got green anery's AND whatever yours are. Maybe we can combine these somehow and come up with something completely different in the future.

Sadly, two of the three passed away. I hope this one makes it to breed with mom. If it is a recessive gene, that should prove it.

Whew!
OK. Now I know I won't be wasting my time searching for some fine attractive pairs of adult ordinoides for you.
Wed and Thursday forecast sunny and 76 degrees. I'll be heading out about 9am. It's funny, in all my efforts I have only come up with 2 females (that I do not wish to part with). The few males I found refused to eat and were released after a month or so. Ordinoides wasn't even in my plan this year but I can't part with these two. They're just TOO awesome.
ssssnakeluvr
05-11-2010, 11:59 PM
looking forward to what ever you catch!! they are primarily worm eaters in the wild...my melanistic loves them, won't touch pinkies....bury a pinky in chopped worm, he will eat all the worm and leave the pinky. I actually got him to eat one...but thats it!! I haven't tried fish with him lately...he wouldn't take it last year...
ConcinusMan
05-12-2010, 12:08 AM
I've had very few take fish. Those few, will take it readily. You are right, even a reluctant feeder can be coaxed into eating worms. Depending on the habitat and whatnot, some will eat fish, and other large ones will take chopped bloody pinkies but they will ALL chow on night crawlers!
I know of a spot near a creek where I found 2 melanistics a few years ago. One was black as the ace of spades, the other had a faint hint of a stripe. Went to go to that spot a couple of months ago. All I found was leveled, excavated bare ground with bulldozers parked there.
They just had to do that in the winter when the snakes were still in their dens. Makes me very angry!

Hey, my big girl ordinoides (2.5 footer) ate half a fuzzy last night. I tried night crawlers first, then fish. No response. There's always one oddball in the group.

How old is mom? if the blackie is a male I was wondering if it's going to be feasable to mate him to mom later on. Want to see you produce more of those!
ssssnakeluvr
05-23-2010, 08:17 PM
no idea how old mom is....she is a w/c female I got from a friend here...she has bred for me both years I have had her....she is in excellent health. will be feeding the little fella and tryingto get him up to breeding size to breed back with mom...see if I can produce some more! will also be interesting to see how he colors up!
