Looking at pics of snakes to be sure my latest snake encounter was actually a Garter... thought I would post these pics... poor little baby birds in there have escaped near death this time.

I got him off with our broom handle and flipped him a hundred feet into our neighbors yard... so I am sure he will be back... I have to sleep sometime, after all :D.

I would have guessed gopher/pine/bull snake but it's hard to tell and I don't know the location.

many juvi ratsnakes look so similar... but that looks a lot like an e. obsoleta to me!

Nashville, TN (can't tell by the rain?:))

Maybe I would have noticed all the rain if it hadn't been raining where I am since march 22nd.

I did see that on the news though. Holy crud! 13 inches in 2 days. Jeez. Some of the worst flooding in my lifetime (interstate I-5 under 10 feet of water) happened after 2 days of rain but we only got 8 inches. I can't imagine 13 in 2 days. OMG!

TN huh? definitely a black rat snake then. Garters are usually striped. Single stripe down the middle of the back, and sometimes stripes on the sides. Not always, but generally. That snake isn't even close.
