Rita is giving birth as I type. I wish I has good news but so far she's passed 3 slugs(jellies).
Make that 1 live born little Het, now. Now it's 2. I mean 3, she's really spitting them out.
Up to 7 now.

I haven't done an official count but it looks like about 6 jellies, 1-stillborn and 21? healthy little scrubs.
Rita' doing fine. Still having some contraction but I think it's just maintenance after giving birth.:)

I do have some birthing video.

Here's the only stillborn, a female. When she came out I saw a lot of the yoke still in the egg and knew there was a problem.
From the looks of the second photo I would surmise there was some kind of internal problem with the baby.
Probably been dead for awhile as I also see some decay in the lower intestinal area. Poor little scrub.

From its location I'm guessing it might have been a kidney problem.
The green is probably Gangrene.
I jus did a final count on the live scrubs. 25

The babies are sleeping after their first bath and shed. I'll get a group photo posted as soon as I can. All normal looking Hets.
Father was a medium red phase from the same part of town she was from. I think next Spring, maybe as early as late Winter one of her first males will be breeding age. Then I'll have a chance to prove this out.

At this point the babies all look like normal T.radix. They may get some red color as they get older but no outword albino will be seen. They should all be het. for Nebraska albino, though.

Here it is. There's a little over 2 minute wait after the first birth then they come pretty quick.

What's even cooler is when they deposit the little scrub right in your hand.
Then it breaks out of the egg sack and takes its first breath with you holding it.
I love being here for the births.

The green is probably Gangrene.
when they die the gall bladder loses its integrity and the bile destroys the surrounding tissues.
cool babies!!! waiting to see pics!!!!!

Can't help but think of John Hammond in Jurassic Park- so he can be imprinted on the baby dinos-
Too much responsibility for this guy.

26 and some eating already? I'd say that was an epic success. Still, you couldn't get a nebraska albino(or het) male for her to mate with? I mean, what's your strategy here. Just curious.

Rita is back eating and eating well.
More of the babies started eating tonight.

And how many of them are patients, Dr. Steve? :p
I'm only kidding. Anyway, I don't recall ever getting babies to eat within 2, sometimes 3 weeks. That's great they are eating.
EPIC SUCCESS!!

An epic success for me is to not lose any of them. Rita had 11 last year and all 11 are thriving and growing like little weeds.
More of the new scrubs started eating tonight. Time will only tell if they all thrive.

They won't leave without a fight.
But you're right, the odds say I may lose some.

These are some awesome snake. Most have been with the Ranch since birth. A few are first time breeders.
I love to watch this cycle take place. To watch my little girls having babies.
