View Full Version : See through radix

One of the really neat things about most albinos is the ability to see through their skin and see different organs.
Today, while I was feeding my female Nebraska albino radix(Rita) I was able to see a number of dark areas along her lower 1/3rd. From their shape I would say it's a load of little scrubs.
She's really been eating and putting on the weight(200g) On 4/4/2010 she was 184g.

Cool. It takes a bright light but I can see Amy's food moving through her, I can see her heart beating and her lung breathing too. And all of that THROUGH her scales. It's getting a bit harder to see as she grows though.
You might notice in some pics of Iowa albinos, even adults, a dark area right about where the heart should be. That's what it is.(deoxygenated blood) With amy you can actually watch it get darker if she moves vigorously.
Now you can see babies! That's way cool.
It's hard to keep track, did you ever breed that WC nebraska albino?

Cool.

This is her. She was bred to a red phase radix from her own area this year.
Hoping next Spring one of her sons(from last year) will be ready to be bred back to her.

Oh, I didn't realize that WC albino had red on it. At first I was like, "why the heck didn't he breed her with another nebraska?" but I see where you're going with this.

Very cool! I've never been a fan of 'see through snakes' but watching embryo development would be fascinating!!!

I don't think you can see it quite THAT clearly but those dark spots are definitely babies.

The great thing about this snake is how relaxed she has become.
For the longest time I thought she would stay wild and skittish but now she like the rest of me girls, cool and relaxed.
She's living with a gravid red phase(Boomerang) and gravid Dark phase(Honda). They were all bred with the same male(Mr. Mansley) who was a loaner stud.
I didn't want to return the male as he was one of the calmest male radixes I've ever seen.
His owner was very surprised by his change in attitude once he hit the Ranch. I guess he had always been wild for him.
Maybe he was just worn out from servicing those 3 ladies:D
Personally, I think it was the aroma therapy, deep messages, cable TV and all-you-can-eat buffet that won him over:D

You always say that

I get that a lot, especially from people who keep them in tubs and/or heated reptile rooms which are often just too dang hot with no nightly cooling. Any snake can get mean when it's too warm. Too darn many people want "reptile rooms" for the novelty and then want to throw in snakes with different temperature needs, and keep them all at 90 degrees 24/7. I even found one guy that installed UV lights in the ceiling. You know, 7 feet up there where UV can't reach the snakes anyway.

Can't prove it didn't contribute. I'll leave that one alone. :p

I know what you're saying. Watching her getting bigger and bigger is cool.
I didn't see her breed but I'm pretty sure she's gravid.
She's so much bigger than last year. Hoping for another nice group of Hets.

You're "pretty sure" huh? I'd like to see what it takes for you to be certain. Man, I can see the dark spots through the entire third of her body, through those highly separated scales. She's either gravid or half dead from an impaction. My past concinnus female got pretty big when she was gravid, but good lawd, I don't think she got quite that swollen even when she pushed out 50.
When she's done, you're going to have to re inflate her or she'll be dragging the loose folds of her hide around!

I certainly hope it's not an impaction as I would hate to lose her.
I think I will look at the glass/snake as half full of little scrubs. :)

I doubt it's an impaction. I was only kidding of course. Dark spots are definitely in the wrong place for that. The worst thing it could be is dead rotten babies causing her to swell with gas and causing the death of the rest of them. But, that kind of makes an impaction seem tame in comparison.
What is with all the questions anyway? You act like you've never done this before.
Looks like a normal extreme gravidity to me.

Gosh, I hope it's not that:D

That's one of my red phase female(Boomerang). Hoping she's gravid also. She spent time with the same male as the albino.
I have 3 females in that enclosure. The third is a dark phase named Honda.
