View Full Version : Made a Decision

Okay, this may be the snow talking but anyway.......

I've come to a decision. I'm gonna take the plunge and buy myself a garter or 2 for my birthday, ( the last day of this month. ) This plan/plot is prospective and subject to change depending on availability of critters AND, more importantly, amount of funds $$$$$$! So there's my realistic disclaimer on this e-mail.

Having said that, this is what I'm looking for. I'd like something with a checkered, albino pattern. I'm not into PINK snakes! But I DO like the yellow pattern that some albinos have. I also love, love, LOVE the color blue in general and guess what? Garters also come in blue. ( I thought the only blue snakes were Malaysian Corals and I'm NOT bringing home an exotic hot! ) So I would also/or like to find a blue phase garter. ( I'm keeping the terms general so that I will not limit myself to this or that specific morph. ) Age depends on price tag. I would like to keep the price low until I have more garter snake experience under my belt so I am not adverse to little guys. I have a feeling the adults may be out of my price range. It depends how much cash I can sock away this month. I live in southern York Co. Pa. so if there are any garter breeders in my area expecting something like I have described please let me know.

As I have said before, these are my dreams only and are subject to change depending on situations that arise. I'm afraid that the minute I commit ( without cash! ), there will be an unexpected car repair or some other unforseen issue that arises from life in general. ( I'm sure many can relate to this! ) We also have to pay for vaccinations for 3 horses this spring and that is never cheap but hubby helps with that since he is also a horse owner. I do the snake thing on my own.

Be that as it may, there's my hopeful plans. It is good to have goals.

I would PM Shannon and ask her for some insight. I don't know how close she is to you but she would be your best resource especially for the PA area. I don't know if she has anything available just yet but her animals are top notch, she would also be able to point you in the right direction if she does not have what you are looking for.

Amy is nice. Got her from Don. (ssssnakeluvr) She's a radix with nice yellow/orange stripes and sides. She only lacks color where dark base color (brown, black, or dark green) is supposed to be so her "checkered" sort of pattern is lacking color, making it stand out from the yellow better than the picture shows. She's pictured on his web page but we made a deal right here on the forum through PM's. http://www.donsgartersnakes.net/images/iowasale.jpg

Checkered albinos (T. marcianus) http://www.gartersnake.co.uk/albmar1.jpg shouldn't be too hard to come by this season, nor too expensive if you shop around. Might want to check out http://kingsnake.com/ classifieds too or consider adopting a rescued snake from your local area. They have that too. http://www.rescuenetwork.org/locator/search.php

To Concinnus Man,

That albino you have pictured is exactly the kind of albino I'm looking for. (Without the frantic nature of the one I handled! ) And I was considering joining kingsnake.com simply for the ads.

Thanks for all the recommendations guys!

The checkered albinos (like the one pictured) are produced in pretty good quantity each year. They shouldn't be too darn expensive. They also get really big, really fast and most have great temperaments I hear.
