Since the other thread went awol during the server's flunky time Sky's progress will hereby be documented once again.

A quick recap -
1 - She weighed 354g at the beginning of October last year and stopped eating for winter on the 27th.
2 - She went into shed mid-December and shed ... on the 27th.
3 - Two days of frantic interest by Spazz post shed. Did not witness intercourse .... but it may have happened.
4 - Back on food on the first of January. Weight of 373g on the 23rd.
5 - On the 6th of February she hit 420g
6 - Off food as of 14th of Feb when she also went into shed.
7 - Hasn't eaten since and shed on the 22nd. Her weight is steady at 406g.

She's been hovering around the warm hide for the last month and a half being either completely in the warm hide or right in the centre of the viv.

Here she is today -

Sounds like a plan :D .... Will have to think of prizes  .... how about ... a Canadian/American winner gets to name one of my holdbacks .... and a European winner gets a free squiggle (if they can manage to arrange transport/come and get it ;) ... I have a guest room). If the European member can't arrange for that they can, of course, name a holdback :D.

Damn! last time I saw a gravid female that bloated was right before my (past) concinnus female popped out 50. They were very small though. She was about 38 inches long. 43 lived beyond a year, 2 stillborns, the other 4 "failed to thrive". No slugs, no deformed. (the still borns were kinked). All broods besides that one were around 25 and most lived.

I'll take a guess. I'd say 30 if she's around 3 feet. 20 if she's much smaller. I'm not even going to try to predict stills, deformed, slugs.

A couple of fun observations -

1) This girl knows when it's bed time!!! On average she has been cooking herself on and around the warm spot all day until 10mins before lights out when she retreats to the cold hide.

2) She's been going for a drink around 1pm each day without fail.

3) Yesterday she slithered out of the warm hide in a hurry .... stopped at the cold hide .... shot me a confused look .... wiggled her neck for about 15seconds .... and promptly shot back into the warm hide .... weirdo!!!

4) I moved her in order to change the repti-carpet (which covers the heatcable). She hissed indignantly and then waited right where the carefresh stops and the carpet begins until I was finished and then went straight back to her favourite spot.

:D

Stefan-A
03-07-2010, 08:52 AM
Wait, what? She hissed? I've never heard a garter hiss.

Due to force majeure, I've personally had to leave my own preggo without supervision for three days. That's unnerving.

 I've heard her hiss a few times. Usually when I come at her unexpectedly and for a while last year she had the habit of hissing at her fuzzies before striking them :D.

Must be stressy mate. ;) I'll cross my fingers that she waits until you get back.

I think I'm starting to see weird behaviour .... she definately seems confused with the world  ... quizzical tail movement ... slight head-bobbing ... deep breathing .... she even did a bit of a neck wiggle yesterday which definately indicates confusion/uncertainty (it's one of Panama's favourite things when she's not sure what to do).

So the winner gets one of the offspring for free, right? ;)

Only if they are European and can come to get it :p .... of course, if you are made of money you could pay for the postage/import fees to the USA .

Original rules - a Canadian/American winner gets to name one of my holdbacks .... and a European winner gets a free squiggle (if they can manage to arrange transport/come and get it ;) ... I have a guest room). If the European member can't arrange for that they can, of course, name a holdback :D.

She now hasn't eaten for a month and 10 days. It's been exactly one month since her shed.

For the past three days she's been 'going to bed early'. ie .... so far the pattern has been - slither to the warm hide before lunchtime
go for a drink around 1pm
remain in and about the warm hide until about 11pm
retreat to cold hide 10mins before lights out and stay there all night.

For the past 3 days she's been moving to the cold hide earlier and earlier. today - 1hour 45mins early.

 bored of me yet? :o .... :p

 occaisional weird behaviour includes sudden fast re-positioning in her warm hide last night and lying in different positions than usual when lying behind her hide. She's been leaving the last third of her body lying in a straight line as opposed to coiling it with the rest of her

I seem to recall them holding it straight up but after some time in labor she gets tired of holding it up I guess and it just sort of arches. Still, every birthing I witnessed was preceeded by obvious muscle spasms before the first one comes out. You'll know it's not a bowel movement about to happen.

Last birth experience I had, I ended up with the most precious best friend of my entire life. Bridget, my orange pomeranian gave birth at around 5am to 2 sable puppies. A boy and a girl while I was sleeping. By noon they were clean, dry, and nursing. I figure she's done and was about to go take a nap when a very tiny black blob plopped out with no warning whatsoever. It was a runt and wasn't moving or breathing. Took quite a bit of time stimulating him but he finally came to life. Turns out he was a black and tan just like his father. To this day he's my favorite. Best dog I've ever had. Philippe de Vosjoli: The Art of Keeping Snakes, page 132:

Does that sound about right to you? ;)

I sure hope this isn't the case. If you remember last year comparing the figures shows a totally different picture.
She's gained more weight on less food than last year and her 'fast' only lasted 3 weeks compared to over 2 months now.
I do worry though ... if she's not produced anything by the end of next week I'll consult my vet for sure.

That is outrageous!

But no indication of total number. No indication of individual neotate size, no indication of "success" as measured by dead or deformed to healthy well developed offspring.

My concinnus always seeked out the cool side during delivery (70-75 degrees) while the newborn tended to leave mom and congregate on the other side, under the basking light at 80-85.

No weird muscle spasms or contracting yet? My females always appeared like they were a male trying to court a female, or a python guarding it's eggs. That would sometimes start up to 24 hours before the first neonate comes out.

Parcels. yeah, those things. Preferably the kind that don't come in a plain brown wrapper with no return address and white powder inside. We also don't want any parcels that make a ticking sound.

We also don't want the lumpy yellow kind of parcels or the kind that never move.

Well, you get the idea, just give us some wiggly squigglies already!

Wait just a minute. Is that her head sticking out? No way! if it is her head she's probably saying "does this make my arse look fat?"

Just tell her "no, you're as beautiful as ever" and you'll be OK.

If it's a different snake, he's probably thinking "geez, what a cow!"

Nothing quite like that yet. She's in the cool hide again at the moment. Her breathing is deep and regular. No conclusive muscle-spasm have been witnessed yet.

Greg you have been doing this all wrong. You need to get her to eat something spicy, I know she has been off food for that last couple of months but maybe she would take a worm covered in Tabasco. Then you need to take her for a ride on a bumpy road in a tight little truck. These both helped put my wife into labor, look what I got out of the deal.

Day 117 ... she's having her weird moments - spending time in her cold hide with the last half of her body sticking out, lying out in the open completely straight (not coiled).
This morning I found her lying in the open with her head hidden next to the waterbowl. She then put a lot of effort into squeezing out the most pathetic little urinary deposit  .... yes, I did get over-excited once again.
She does seem a little lethargic. It's no surprise with the effort it takes to move her body. I'll be booking a vet appointment for Monday just in case once I get home from work. That's also day 120 after which it will be getting a little ridiculous.

Anyway :) this weekend .... touch wood!

P.S. - I will now close the voting process so this is the final list of guesses
