glad it went well
resting is really important now, so his body can use all it's resources for recovery
don't let him go do the mega radix feeding event for a few days, okay?

My dad just went through the same thing.(shoulder surgery) They had him taking morphine twice a day PLUS oxycontin every few hours. He was sleeping most of the time and high as a kite the rest of the time. I told him that you don't necessarily have to take all that was prescribed. You can cut it back and adjust according to your pain levels.
After a few days he took my advice and started taking the morphine once before bed. Once he figured out how often he needed the oxy he was able to cut out a few of those per day too. Within 10 days you should be able to cut back even more. I guess my point is you can skip some of those pills and endure only a little more discomfort in favor of consciousness but the first few days(until the swelling subsides somewhat) you're better off knocked out anyway. Don't even try to cut back until then.
I don't know about you or my dad, but last time I took morphine for more than 10 days, it made all other opiates, mophine based like oxy OR any synthetic opiate made from thaibane (a non-psychoactive substance found in opium poppies) such as vicodin (hydrocodone) completely useless for nearly a year. You want to avoid taking natural opiates such as morphine or codeine for more than 7 days to avoid that.
I trust by now you have already cut back and your swelling is getting better.
I really feel for you 'cause I've seen friends and family go through the same surgery. It will get better very soon. Hang in there.

Had my first check-up since surgery. Everything is going well. Stitches were taken out today. I get 3 more weeks of home rehab. then I'll start professional rehab. Still leaning on the pain meds.
I was able to clean a couple of big enclosures today. The snakes were happy about that. Some of my big girls came out and rubbed against my arms. It was the kind of rubbing they do after eating. I had no food and they were pushing very hard on my arms. It was weird but I hadn't seen any of these snakes for 5 days. I think they were happy to see me.:D
I also spotted one of my male red radixes trying to make time with a large normal female. I had some mating take place at about the same time last year.

you just be careful with yourself, Steve
re-injuries take much much much longer to heal
try to be a wimp for a while - it'll pay off later

I think I may have tore my shoulder up again. My youngest bent my arm back while I was sitting on the couch. She didn't mean to do it but it happened.
Now, I'm feeling some of the same pain I felt before surgery. My physical therapist wants to wait until Thursday to see how it feels. Having a lot of trouble sleeping since Sat. so that's just another sign I may have hurt it again.
If surgery has to be done again, I'll be out of commission for 6 more months. That will be prime herping time:(

Oh crap. It does happen. However, I think the second time around is a faster recovery believe or not.

This time they will have to open my shoulder up, according to my Dr.
That's a much longer recovery time.
I hope you're right.:)

no - definitely not
as a health practitioner I can tell you that re-injuries generally take considerably longer to heal
I am so sorry, Steve; it really sucks

I was just speaking from my friends experience. He fell UP the stairs and when he caught himself, he tore off the tendon that had been re-attached 6 mos earlier. The second time around, he recovered rather quickly.
