Hello! I am an author of children's books and have just taken on an assignment to write one on garter snakes. This book will be targeted to kids grades 3-8 and I'm wondering if any of you would like to share fun facts, gross details or intriguing stories about garters to be included in the book.

If you are interested, you can email me directly at sipsey21hotmail.com.

Welcome Heather :)

I took a peek at your Rattle Snake book and thought it was very well done for that 3-8 age group. I hope you find what you're looking for here. Most of the basics are readily available through care sheets, etc. If you have specific questions or find conflicting info, please don't hesitate to ask for clarification!

Thanks for checking out my other book. The new book (specifically on Garters) will be for an older audience (grades 3-8), and thus a different format than WHAT'S IN A RATTLESNAKE'S RATTLE.

You are right that there is a lot of good basic information out there. I've found tons of general info. But my new book will be a high interest book (geared for kids who don't especially like to read) so I need lots of really engaging material for it. It will have sidebars that include true stories of garter snakes (maybe doing unusual things), gross information in fact blurbs and eye-catching diagrams and photos. So, I guess what I'm asking for is any crazy facts that you think kids would get into or any personal stories about your snakes.

Welcome Heather, it is a very nice idea to write a story about a little garter snake. Maybe going into the nearby garden for the first time and discovering the area around. It might be good idea to have a small pond and some trees. The little snake can meet some new friends also :)

Maybe the little garter would look something like gregmonsta's snake in december photo contest....

I am sure it will be great, good luck Heather...
