Probably a setting to reduce the amount of bandwidth it takes to load pages? I don't really know. I don't know much about mobile devices. Ask me anything about a desktop or laptop and I'll have an answer. I'm clueless when it comes to your phone though. Don't even know much about mine since I just got it. a Motorola Atrix 4G.

If you hit the quote button(lower right corner of each post) in the post you want to quote it will open a reply field.
Click below the quote that you see and enter your response.
If you want to quote more than 1 person click the Plus button(next to the word quote) in all the quotes you want except the last. For the last quote use the "Quote" button. That will transfer all the quotes to a reply field.
Hope that made sense.;)

Jesse, you may have had to teach yourself but in this day the personal computer is as common as a TV was in our youth.
You use it at school, at home and at the library. Many of us (adults) never even had access to a pc during our school years and perhaps maybe had access at work. We certainly had no one to teach us unless you paid for the course.
Cell phones are also a given. Those weren't really all that common till the 90's. I remember my ex-husband buying one of the first ones to comes out at Radio Shack in 1988, a couple months before my daughter was born. He insisted he needed it so I could get in touch with him at the time I may go into labor. What a joke that was. There were no towers at the time (anywhere near us) and the phone cost him over $700.00. I could think of many other ways to spend $700.00 at the time.

Ok, smart #$%!
A majority of the children/youth these days use computers at one time or another in school.
And to think I never laid a finger on one or even knew how to turn one on until 1991. (age 21) and now at age 41, I work as a PC tech. Go figure. I do remember in 6th grade (1979) my school was one of the first in the State of Washington, to get a couple of Apple computers or any computers for that matter. You know, the first computers ever to come with the graphics based interface using icons on the screen, in 16-bit color. Right after that, Windows came out based on that same type of interface, the court battle between MS and Apple began.
Still, all the way up until graduation in 1987, the only computer I ever saw at school was an Apple. "Apple II" I believe they were called. Just never touched one until 1991 shortly after my 21st birthday and then it wasn't an Apple/Mac. It was an "IBM Compatable" running Microsoft DOS using a monochrome monitor.
These days I can fix, tune, build, write apps for, setup networks, secure, remove viruses, crack software, write cracks, remove viruses, intercept and modify/analyze web data packets, etc., just about anything imaginable. But only on PC (back in the day, "PC" was called "IBM compatable") running DOS 1-6, or any version of Windows from 1.0 to Windows 7, or Linux/Unix. My, how times change.
Why did I choose the MS "PC" path? It wasn't because I knew things would turn out the way they did in computer market. I chose it because it was hard. because IBM PC's were hard. Because it was challenging. Apple/Macs were too easy.

I assume that perhaps the change allows us to imbed videos that don't come from youtube but I haven't tried that yet.

Nobody I know of actually "gets into it" but it's not as scary as you might think. Under the right conditions, it can even "fix" a person that struggles with "head" issues.
Adderall is speed. I would in good conscious recommend a mushroom trip at least once in a persons life, (had life-long lasting positive effect on me) before I would have someone dose up on speed regularly, (always a lot of bad negative side effects without much positive benefit) but that's just me I suppose.
From what you described it sounds like you got a case of amphetamine psychosis. That's never a good thing. You shouldn't take it if that's happening.

Do you have pics? We could give you a positive I.D. if we had a pic. Wandering garters are very hardy and usually will eat frozen/thawed rodents. Should make a great pet. The snakes in this video are wandering garters from Utah, owned by Don Belnap (ssssnakeluvr). They vary a bit in appearance depending on where they are found. What really gives them away as Wandering garters is when the spots overlap the dorsal stripe a bit.

It was filmed while the snakes at the infested house were all hibernating. That's why they used Don's captive snakes for the filming instead. The snake scenes were actually done at Don's place, not the infested house. At least, I think that's what happened.
I'm sure if they wanted to film radixes, they would have went to Steve's place. They needed wanderings since that is what the house is infested with.

Steve, I have a wild caught female who has been in captivity for almost five years now. She will start playing dead if I spend too much time in her enclosure, cleaning, moving things around, etc. Most of the time she stops after a few seconds... doesn't even make it all the way upside down like the snakes in those videos. From my personal experience with her, they can stop whenever they want.

I had a female too. Mine only ever played dead once but I've experienced others that do it more often. In my experience they generally keep it up until they believe that the threat has passed. And they stink when they empty their bowels at the same time. My hoggie generally just adopted a defensive posture, spreading a slight hood while making fake strikes and hissing a lot. We named her Frying Pan for that lol. A very unique and fun species to keep in my opinion.

Speaking of...I just posted a link from The Reptile Report of some hognose pics...take a look you guys...it's in Other Pets. I'm going to be looking for a hognose when Mike and I are at the expo in Hamburg in June. We are still looking for more people to join us!

Out of interest how do you go about bringing reptiles back from another country? Would be tempted to go to ham myself
EasternGirl
04-15-2012, 02:07 PM
Just to be clear...this is Hamburg, PA, in the U.S., not Germany. I realize that is still out of the country for you...but some people think it is Germany when I first say it. I thought the same when Mike first mentioned it. I don't know if you can bring reptiles overseas. I don't know how you would do that. I know you can't bring them on planes...and you couldn't ship them overnight overseas. The time required to ship them overseas would have to be dangerous for the snakes. Companies do it though...don't they?
Btw...if I had the money and there was an expo in Hamburg, Germany...I would be all over that!

04-15-2012, 02:59 PM
Lol that makes sense now :) in sure there is one in Germany too. I've never been to a reptile show so I could be wrong.

This will be my first...so I'm pretty excited. I actually just became interested in hognoses too. I saw a couple in Delaware in the wild when I was little...but I had no idea about the whole "hooding" thing. That is just too cool. The fact that they can be rather tame snakes to keep as pets and have the whole hood thing going on is really awesome. Plus the playing dead factor. Mike looked for one for me at another expo he went to...but they didn't have any, so I am hoping maybe they will have one that won't be too expensive at the expo in Hamburg. I would think they would have snake shows in Germany...

On a side note did anyone catch the garter episode of snakebytes? I'm not a huge fan of the show in general but I love seeing footage of species I'm not familiar with. http://www.thamnophis.com/forum/general-talk/10971-new-snakebytes-video-garter-snake.html

Excessive and more than needed but true. Unfortunately that's where the money in snake breeding is right now. I personally wouldn't touch any morph of royal. They don't look natural, and I like natural. Plus too many morphs are inbred, and a few have signs of neurological disorders. But between the royal episodes you get to see some different species and every now and then some less seen species.
I generally don't discount something just because I don't like one aspect of something. Though they do go OTT on some things, it does manage to get a regular audience because of it.

You are absolutely right. Annoying idiots make up about 75% of the show.

When I first watched Snakebytes I thought it was cool, then the second time and every time after that, I found them to be very... Well. I can't really say that here. Haha. Lets just say they're incredibly stupid.

I have to completely agree with that. Monitors need to be in much larger enclosures. Its part of the problem I see in reptile shops a lot, and Why I'm not keen on large breeding facilities that are designed to make monies with no concern for the animals wellfare. I also see many monitors without a deep enough substrate to allow burrowing, which really bothers me (mostly boscs).
I feel the need to clarify here that I'm not a fan of these guys. I don't think its big or cleaver to mess with animals for hits on you tube, and encouraging snakes to strike and bite is very irresponsible. I merely enjoy seeing some of the different species they sometimes show. Just as I enjoy watching videos of other peoples pets and setups.

First off, no pet store enclosure is intended to be a proper long term home. It's simply a holding area intended for short term. And second, any breeding facility designed to make money, won't make any money, or even get viable offspring to sell, if they have no concern for the welfare of the animals. Your last statement is an oxymoron. "designed to make monies with no concern for the animals welfare" If you've been watching the show at all you would know that they are quite knowledgeable and concerned with the health and welfare of the animals.
Now as far as the "chewy" episodes go, I don't like the way they tease the snakes into biting, but I'm sure even if they didn't, it's something that happens every day anyway. They know which snakes are nippy and purposely mess with those for the purpose of entertaining. I don't agree with it, but like I said, I'm sure they get bit regularly just going about the daily business of caring for the snakes.
Look I just think some people are being a little too critical. What you see on SnakeBytesTV should not be taken as an overall impression of the people that run it, or how it's run. Go there yourself. Talk with the real people when they're not acting. Check out the facility. Then be critical if there's anything to be critical of. I think you'll find a very professionally run business, healthy animals, and a very efficiently run immaculately clean facility. Probably one that any zoologist would be impressed with, and certainly one of the best facilities in the country. These guys know what they're doing and spare no expense caring for the animals.

How is it possible that this guy can be bitten by a black mamba like this and live?
Unless.. it was intentional as the guy let it bite him with no fangs or it was a fake snake all together.

The photos are good, and that bite shot looks very fake. Notice how the snake is artistically positioned around his leg?

I guess this could have been much worse. I wonder if they dull down the gator's teeth to make accidental attacks less deadly...
