What effect does brumation have on the male garter snake?
I've read many articles and studies as to the benefit for females but does that cold time help the male in the reproductive department?

I need to cool my eastern male .I think most of northern species need An hibernation periode ,other wise they dont have any reproductive behavior!
I cant elaborate on this my english is to bad ...
Male need it to be more fertile,at least to months in hibernation.
I Never had succes when just cooling my male from 12 to 15 celcius ,I rather hibernation at 4 celicius!
Probably its depend where the garter snake is originated !
eastern garter snake from Quebec need it but I don't know about eastern from southern U.S.A maybe its different???

I dunno steve. I've got a breeding response from males that skipped, as long as the female was brumated then usually right after she sheds, even males that skipped it were all over her. However, it didn't result in a litter. Might just be coincidence though.
