When I was living in New York there was a trio of what I would assume were eastern garter snakes living by my porch. The big girl had more of a copper toned side much more pronounced than I have seen in other pictures of easterns. Is a common variation in their color?

I have a set of 10 babies from my Eastern that range in color from yellow stripes, to brown to dark brown, almost all black, to one that appears to have blue in it as if it is a Florida Blue Eastern. I'd say that there are many color variables possible. I am not a breeder, so maybe some of our more experienced members could comment on their experiences and observations.

I have easterns living in my yard (and basement) and a few of them are very coppery. The easterns can be quite diverse in their coloration, even in a small locality.

I kind of wish I could have seen her babies and got one. She sure was pretty. I'm pretty mad at myself for forgetting the memory card with pictures of them.
