Hey, I just moved to Utah from New York about a month ago and just got into garters around the same time. Well I guess I have almost always been into them seeing as how as a kid I was always catching them(most common/easy to catch snake in NY). I've recently started looking into them again seriously as pets though. Anyone know of any garter breeders in the SLC area?

I actually saw your tank of garters at the Wasatch show haha. Didn't even know of the forum then. I'm looking for a relatively cheap starter that looks good. I know a bit about snakes and actually have 10 at the moment. 6 ball pythons, 2 kenyan sand boas and two baby yellow bellied racers.

Eh I doubt it. I was talking more to the ball python vendors there. I definitely noticed the garters and even pointed out how they can be pretty (my girlfriend thinks they are boring). Would you mind PMing me some info/prices. Maybe we could work something out. :)

O yea! I messaged you a couple weeks ago about going herping. I don't remember finding anything too exciting that day anyway. Did you happen to see my late season post over there? There was movement that I know of still going on Sunday.
O and thanks for the welcomes everyone!!!

Compared to the ball pythons and tarantulas we keep. She thinks everything needs to be huge and really colorful. I've been trying to convince her otherwise, but maybe actually getting one will help.

O I have shown her and she does agree to a degree, but I kind of doubt us being able to afford one of the really pretty ones.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Much of the beauty these animals possess isn't something you see with your eyes. It's what they do when our two world meet and interact.
If I may suggest. Don't make your first one, one you get because of it's appearance. Some of my best T.radixes(Plains Garter Snake)are what would be called normal in appearance. Nothing striking. No brite color or patterns. But they are priceless. I hope in your journey to find what you're looking for you find what you need.
Just my thoughts.:)

O no, I was planning on getting a normal. I think all snakes are beautiful regardless if they are bright blue or a dull grey. They will always be amazing animals to me. I was more or less saying it in regards to her.
