A gartery day

Hi guys,

before I am off for a day of paintballing I figured i would throw up these quick shots of what I brought home yesterday. Most of these animals I adopted (so no I did not go on a huge spending spree as it appears!) and Rhea was kind enough to bring them to the show for me. Thanks Rhea!!! The only snakes I actually purchased were the western blacknecks.

Here are the blacknecks... the male is BIG for a male and they both have surprisingly laid back attitudes. This makes a trio for me. I now will be adding western blacknecks to my list of things to breed this year!

two adult female amel checkered garters- these snakes really do glow, and deserve more credit than I and most other keepers give them!

A GORGEOUS and thick female concinnus from Rhea! This female will be hopefully mated with rainbow man this year.

A pair of blue infernalis - male is in shed, he has a lot of pretty contrasty black markings. and no I did not over-saturate the photos of the female. She is really THAT red! (right Rhea!?) This is one of the only snakes I have ever photographed that the photos come out looking way over saturated, even when stock on the camera. Her blue has washed out, but is as intense as my big girl from Scott, her red is twice as intense! She is a KNOCKOUT. the male:

And together the boyfriend and I purchased Taco. Taco is a male orange translucent bearded dragon. He was purchased to, in the future, be used in my educational shows at elementary schools. So tiny and precious!

lol - this morning it looks indeed like all my thamnophises belong to Shannon
and I was so good at that show - only came home with one of Don's fitchi babies and some feeders - somebody pat my back because it wasn't easy
the colours in these infernalis pics really are quite close to the real thing - the blues are a tad washed out
so after Shannon offered me first pick of her offspring next year, I backed off on the firstborn (never know how those turn out anyhow)
and that handsome little beardie of Shannon's is already lined up for future stud services

not as easy as snakes
they need a lot of space, heat, UVB, supplementation, veggie chopping, bugs, ideally attention
a properly fed dragon probably eats a better diet than - at a conservative estimate - half of the people on this forum
they're really cool pets and worth it

the western blacknecks, the checkered girls, and the concinnus. The infernalis need some meat on their bones and a year of good solid growth. I already have one pair of infernalis to put down this year so I am not going to rush this newer pair.

Hard enough! And when you do find them, they generally will cost you a pretty penny. The main reasons for this is the fact that it is illegal to collect and then sell them and I don't think in california you are allowed to possess more than 1 at a time in the first place. I could be wrong though. The one you do have you can't breed or sell. Only give for free. This makes getting them to the general public very HARD and most people could not be bothered with it. And then, you have an extremely high demand for them, and when you couple that with small clutch sizes... well you can see why they are hard to come by! I was very, very, very, unimaginably fortunate to acquire this pair, let alone adopt them, and I am incredibly lucky to now own FOUR, two males, two females, of these amazing animals. You can bet I will be holding back offspring!
