first and foremost: CALM DOWN

then: make sure you check the cage again. If he's really not in there, check the area immediately around his cage. look under things, on shelves, they can climb just as well as they can hide. If you can't find him, lay some plastic bags down up against the walls and spoon piles of flour up against the wall as well at various intervals. If he crawls over a pile of flour you will see his trail, and if he runs into a plastic bag it will make noise. Seal off the room he is in if it's possible. Hope he turns up soon!

Start looking. Move everything.
Sometimes just sitting motionless for awhile will let them come out. Listen for it also. Was the room sealed or does the snake have access to the rest of the house?
You and your snake are in out prayers.

I lost my two snakes in my basement during brumation last winter. One was gone FIVE WHOLE MONTHS. They both lost a little weight, but were still fine and healthy. As long as they didn't have access to outside, you don't need to panic. (The actually showed up really close to their aquarium. Apparently, they didn't go far.)

To find your snake, you have to think like a snake. Empty yourself of humanity and let serpentine thoughts fill your brain. You are the snake! Look around. Where would you go, and what would you want?

Where do snakes like to be? - Warm, confined spaces. Search places near/in heating vents and appliances. Try luring the snake out with a heating pad or UV light.

What do all living things need? - Water! Set out dishes of water along the walls. Scatter flour around them (if you have hard floors) to see if your escapee has been around.

What do naughty little snakes want most? - FOOD! Unless your snake is in brumation, it won't be able to resist the smell of a juicy worm or pinky. Lay out your snake's preferred food with scent trails leading up to it. Also use the flour method.

Remember - Snakes can curl up in the tiniest spaces and hold still for hours. - Be patient.

Good Luck. I hope this helps. I know how first-hand how stressful this time can be.

My biggest fear is a human getting in. There are a lot of very sick people out there.

I don't have that problem, most people i know are terrified of my snakes! But if a snake got out in this house itd be gone. Its an ancient old farm house and there is no way to seal off a room. The snake could literally get into the walls where the wall meets the floor. Hopefully when i move in a week or two (to a much nicer, newer place) it won't be as big of a fear for me!

You know how people have "Beware of Dog" signs? You should just put up a "Beware of Snakes" sign. I'm sure if people know you keep snakes in your house, it'll be the last place they want to break into.

I saw a sign recently that said: "Nevermind the dogs, beware of the owner." I think that would be far more appropriate.

It's the snakes' safety that I'm more worried about (they don't have a key to the gun safe), I have no intentions of openly advertising that I have pets.
