Hello all! :)

I am new here, though I remember coming around some 4 or 5 years ago, lurking and reading threads. I hope to become a dedicated, contributing member as best I can now. I currently own 1.3.6 Thamnophis radix, along with a small collection of other herps. I also work at an educational facility that displays a high quality collection of reptiles as well as a few hawks and owls. I have kept Thamnophis my entire life, and even though they are overwhelmingly common in northern Illinois, they have always been my favorite genus of snakes.

I am working towards an associate degree in biology, then transferring and majoring in wildlife biology. Besides animals, I love dancing, drawing, reading, photography, and tracking moose and wolves in northern Minnesota. I believe that will suffice for now!

Welcome! Your work sounds fascinating!

Oh, it's incredible! Not only do I zoo keep, I also teach nature classes for children and work on conservation topics. In fact, right now I'm working with our curator on a Pantherophis vulpina conservation project.

Pantherophis vulpina
Pardon the ignorance, but what is vulpina? That would be a type of rat snake, right? Pantherophis are also corn snakes, right? They just changed their name to that from Elaphe. Suppose I could look it up, but I'm too lazy to today. That does sound like a pretty cool job, I've always thought it would be neat to work at a zoo.

Vulpina is a fox snake, so - like you said - closely related to rat snakes. :]
