I've observed an interesting phenomenon with my garter snakes. My garters are usually very curious snakes, often cruising around the tank to watch anything nearby. What I've observed though is that they seem VERY curious about other species of snakes. On occasion I've taken one of my pythons and held it just outside the tank, in front of the hide door, and within seconds all 3 of the garters would be snouts pressed to the glass, tongue flickering and trying to find out what the new snake was. There's no sign of aggression or threat posturing on the garters, only what seems to be an unquenchable curiosity about the new snake. They will do this for other colubrids as well, but not with such enthesusiam as with my ball, and carpet pythons.
Has anybody else seen such behavior with their Garter snakes?
