As most of you know I have a few babies around the Ranch. Most are aggressive eaters and growing fast. Then I have those slow eaters. For them I've been buying Guppies. Today I went out to the backyard and dug up a couple hundred earth worms. These little slow eaters went crazy for them. There must be something about them since they will pick out the earth worms from the baby nightcrawlers. These pale little worms are going to help get these babies going.
Do these specialized eaters have less of a chance in the wild? Why would there be so much difference in the food interests? Will they grow out of this? All these question have my interest and I will be watching as the next 6 months unfold.

Earthworms are doing it again. I placed a slow eater(baby) in a container with earthworms and one short fat night crawler. The second he hit the bottom of the container he struck and grabbed the night crawler. This is a little radix that has always refused night crawlers.
I wish I has an earthworm scent spray or maybe a guppy scent spray.

To get Amy to eat pinky parts I just throw in a silversides head then thaw. Perhaps all it will take is some fishy smell? (almost any fish will do for that) Don't need a spray for that.

Missing your worm named "Jimmy" ???.. eheem. No need to elaborate.

I believe he had to fight off a giant garter but first he had to get through Predator. http://www.thamnophis.com/forum/images/other/contestwinner_10_01.jpg

The timing for my latest babies to be born and the emergence of Spring couldn't have been better.
Now that the frost is out of the ground I can once again go shopping for snake food in the backyard.
These pale little earthworms, as I call them are perfect for those babies who don't want night crawlers.
It gives them a start and good chance to make it.
These worms can be found under leaf litter, boards or other objects. They seem to stay close to the surface.

I used to find something like those under the rocks of our flower beds. They were a little bit more purple at the head, though since they were night crawlers. The ones I kept were always short and fat ones, instead of the long and thin ones. Squirt liked them more when I was feeding them to him. :D

Can't wait to shop in the backyard again. The kids found 3 slugs yesterday! That's the first of the season here.
