A litter of unborn garters

A friend had a litter of unborn garters. There were unfertilized eggs und some ready snakes, but dead. Anybody an idea? Maybe stress or something similar?

Most of the time male was not quite old enough to get the job done in proper temps and humidity or anything else like that sometimes it just happens.

Is there any source, where I can find pictures of a litter with dead baby an unfertilized eggs?

I have no pics of that except in boas.

I need pics of ovovivipar species -/ Thamnophis etc. to compare.
