Hi, new here. I have a garter that is giving birth, so far there's just been a slug and two stillborns.

Hopefully some of them will be alive. I've bred garters in the past, I'm worried about this one though, since so far they're not moving. :(

One of mine gave birth the other month and for the 1st time had 4 still born and one died from not eating. I think the temperature was slightly out as they came out a lot bigger this time, 9 in all. The other 4 are doing well now eating live fish soon to be moved onto pinky bits. How did your birthing end?

So far just another slug.

What are "slugs", anyway? I found a lot of talk of them on this forum, but couldn't find where it explains what they are.

Ah thanks for clearing that up.

Over a period of 3 days she's had 3 stillborns and 3 slugs. I wonder what's wrong with her. :(

Sometimes these thing happen. For as much as we know about these snakes there's far more we don't know. All we can do is give them the best we can and hope for the best. I too, have had a number of jellies and stillborns this year.

Giving birth over the 3days seems a bit long as I have found that birthing happens the once and as I have mentioned in my last post temp plays a great part in helping birthing. Did you give her a birthing area such as a mound of shavings, box or dark area and of course reduce the temp at night in the final stages as this helps with birthing and feeding needs to be increased in the final weeks otherwise they starve.
