Hey guys I was given a free 4.5 foot corn snake yesterday by an owner who claimed it was nasty. I've have it for about 20 hours and it is very calm, anyhow I was wondering even though I know the basics if someone can give me a fairly accurate guess to it's sex. The snake is only 2 years old.

Beautiful snake. Sorry I can't help you with your question.

no problem I beleive they are sexed the same way as garters but I'm just having bad luck guessing and my camera keeps freezing on me so I have to use my phone which has blurry pictures

I don't know that it's possible to sex corn snakes visually - I think they need to be probed, but I'm not a corn snake person

you can but the thing is I don't have another corn snake of the same age of a proven gender to compare it too :(

They can be and the same general rules apply. But for someone who isn't familiar with corns, it's difficult.

Looks alot like a male to me, you can never be sure just by giving a good guess tho. Get it probed at a local breeder or reptile store. So the previous owner said she was a " nasty" corn snake? I never heard of a "nasty" corn snake. All of my corn snake's have been very docile and calm. The one i have now is probably the most calm i snake i have owned. Good luck to you and your new corn snake, they are great!

Sight sexing a corn is very iffy, but I would guess male. It's a very good looking corn though. If you don't know it's parentage you have to call those a Normal, but it looks like an Okeetee to me.

I'm pretty good with sexing adult Corns and Rats, and this looks male to me. There's a fairly distinct bulge there right below the cloaca, then the tail tapers off. If you really want to be sure, especially given that photos aren't always an accurate way to sex a snake, have it probed, but it certainly looks male from this angle.

I have both male and female corn snakes of various ages and would say its impossible to tell the difference visually you will have to have it probed if you cant do it yourself, some reptile shops will do it free if you phone in advance. I would also say that that is too big for that age, I would guess maybe 4 or 5 years a 3 year old is usually 3 foot.

It would make life easier if you could tell like you can on a garter as we are going to breed ours we had to have them probed but learned how to do it ourselves.

if you want a laugh though I was in a rep shop looking for a male garter, and the shop had one garter in I had a look and said female the guy in the shop didnt think that was an accurate way of doing it so probed and found it was female. Oh well garters are rare here in the uk.
