Bylaws & Garter Snake Breeders.

I am not sure if this is already discussed or not but I called up an animal hospital that deal with reptiles and when she asked me which type of snake I wanted sexed as I am debating finding out 100% which sex they are she told me it's 80$ per snake but that they don't do garter snakes because it's illegal to own anything indigenous <----spelt that wrong didn't I? When I looked online for my city Ottawa Ontario Canada nothing states that garter snakes are illegal from the ones around here. Does anyone know if this is true? Second question where is a good place in North America to purchase a garter snake wether wandering or Florida blue or whatever that would ship to Canada?

can't tell you anything about your state/country, but here in NY state the laws are far from accessible - I had to do a ton of research and even call an agency to get that info
I don't see that anyone in a pet shop points out anything about pet laws not pertaining to cats and dogs - possibly the first time I heard they existed was on this forum and then I did the research to find that - oops, I do indeed harbour an illegal creature
since then I've learned a lot
such as- New York State has two agencies ruling over pet-ownership, and NYC an additional one; so there's three sets of laws that I'm supposed to abide by, and for all I know I've missed one

thank you :) will do on Sunday. I will take or at least try my very best to take clear underside and side view of the Adults I have.
PS: 2 hours ago I found a garter again and he / she is very FAT and thick, I am hoping to God it is a gravid female, I'm dying to witness the birth of garter snakes I love them so much. I am also thankfull my gf is allowing all these snakes in her home she loves them too but it scared to death of them but since I'm home all day I have all the time in the world and all the food in the world to feed these lil guys.

id go ahead and bring a laptop go to the laws & restrictions of pets for your territory and rub it in their face....or say its a non indiginus garter
