Well today i have found out the baby i have is a boy all the others i think are girls. When do snakes breed and how old do they have to be to even start?

18 months but that time may vary in different Garters. My male radixes are as early as 12 months and around 18 months on the females.

I had an 8 month year old male successfully sire a brood before.

Yes they can. The males seem to mature sexually earlies than the females.

Breeding ages are a bit of a guideline. Breeding size is more appropriate. I lost a yearling female early this year (and she had grown really fast). During the necropsy I noticed that she had egg follicles already gearing up to do their job.
It is better to wait for the 2 year mark for females as pregnancy can be hard on young females (it also holds back from reaching a good adult size).

Wow garter snakes are different then my boas cause you can't breed a female boa till 3 yrs 6' and 10 pounds but males are sexually mature at about year.
