I have a new question now that I am preparing for some new friends. If my enclosure/tank is large enough, can I house all of my snakes together? I will have 5. I am trying to pick up a 30 gallon tank.

I understand that I may want to keep females & males seperated. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

As long as there isn't an enormous size difference and as long as one of them isn't a wandering garter. ;)

I keep all three of my garters in the same enclosure. As long as there is enough space and the snakes are of similar size, you shouldn't have a problem.

My snakes are always wrapped around each other, I can never tell where one snake ends and another begins. It's generally just a giant mess of cuddling coils! :D

Right now, I have my three together and except for the Dekayi, they are the same size. Even him being little seems to be OK, they all snuggle together in the hide.

Pardon my ignorance but what is a "wandering garter?"

Thamnophis elegans vagrans..... notoriously cannibalistic.

James, Thanks for a great picture. Are they found in the North East United States?

Not really, they're from further west.... Washington, Alberta, British Columbia, south to Nevada and New Mexico.

Thanks, again! I just looked up snakes found in Connecticut and they are not among the 12 or so. No fear of mine devouring one another for dinner unless it's a food fight!
