ok, so i have owned a thamnophis sirtalis annectans (texas garter snake), which came by accident in a shipment of xenocrophis vittatus at our local petshop, for about 3 years now, and hes my buddy, well, hes not very docile, hes jumpy, grumpy, and stinks me all the time, which is how i like them lol. Anyways i took him out to photograph him for the garter wiki photo library on here, and when my dad was holding his tail i tried to move his body and he nabbed me but in a strange place, he caught me in the webbing between my pointer and middle but this time he sank his back elongated teeth deep into me, and he chewed and chewed for a good 3 minutes, he would tug and twist and yank and sink deeper, lol i was laughing the whole time, well im not complaining because ive been bitten hundreds of times out in the fields by monsterzilla snakes, except this time he hit some sensitive nerves that actually felt pretty unpleasant and i just kept laughing while my dad was like wow...lol he was laughing too and my mom was like , i dunno why im saying this but it was just funny to me so i had to say it.....although it wasnt as bad as when my old Nerodia fasciata confluens (broad-banded water snake) completely tore the palm of my hand into flesh dust a few years back, now that was effin bloody, anyone else got any horror bite, or comedy bite stories of bites like these? lol i always get itchy a little bit after a serious bite, minus the anti-coagulation

I seem to remember reading somewhere that Texas garters have a more potent venom than other garters. Of course, that could be the Alzheimer's kicking in.

well, i wouldnt doubt it though, because it swelled up like a balloon for at least a half an hour, an he was the first snake i ever had to accept rodents unscented so im guessing he would need to have more a potent saliva to subdue rodents which can in turn cause fatal damage as well, but yet they might be no more toxic than say a ribbon snake

My new addition at the time, Midnight, always took a liking to the area between my thumb and pointer finger. And then she would chew...
