Hello - I'm Michael Smith. I've kept eastern blacknecks, Texas garters, plains, red-sided, and checkered garters. Currently I have a gravid female eastern blackneck, and may have babies to feed within a few weeks.

I've posted an article on T. c. ocellatus on my website; if interested, have a look and tell me what you think. (See the "captive bred reptiles" page and look toward the bottom.)

I'm also very interested in field herping and natural history generally, and I try to get out to the Big Bend in west Texas and the Big Thicket in southeast Texas as often as possible.

Looking forward to browsing the photos and articles here.

Welcome. It seems you are right down the street from me, as I currently reside in the basement of UT Arlington's Biology department. Me and my western black necks...

Hi - I'm in the DFW area. I don't have any reason to think blacknecks are endangered in central Texas - were you thinking I'd said that?

Wow - we should get together. You keep western blacknecks?

Welcome to the site. I am so glad that you have the Eastern Blacknecks.

I have bred them but unfortunately lost one of my females this spring and the other girl gave me a bunch of slugs and 2 tiny babies that I have my doubts about.

I will PM you since I am very interested in getting another male.

Yeah. I have 15 of them down in my lab, along with a bunch of Nerodia erythrogaster, american bullfrogs, and canyon treefrogs.

Then there is my home collection... heh. Lets just say that you dont notice the difference between incriments of 15 animals... Of course due to a pet sitting incident while I was on my AZ field collecting trip this summer, I have had to consolodate my reptile collection into emergency quarters, making up for lack of space with habitat complexity and filtration, until such a time as I can replace some ruined tanks. Field season pulled a number on my bank accounts and replacing tanks, substrate, filters and plants all at one time ie expensive... Must... kill... Scumbag...

You can keep the blotched water snakes!!

Anyhow, maybe you can come to the DFW Herpetological Society meeting tomorrow (Saturday) at UTA Life Sciences building - 7pm. If you're there, come introduce yourself. I'll be the one introducing the speaker.

I did make the meeting, guy in Hawaiian shirt, didnt get a chance to introduce myself.

Oh, and any sort of life table requires a HUGE dataset. I dont know if you are familiar with his work, but Justin Congdon spent thirty years getting all the necessary data with Blandings turtles, three generations of turtles, over 30000 recaptures...
