I took some pictures of her with the good camera tonight. She's been great to handle, no musking or biting- such a sweet and mellow girl already! (and a lot more fun to watch than my ball python...:p)

I'm just recently become amazed by garters....they are such naturally beautiful snakes :)

Here's "Princess"

Thanks guys...I can't wait to get into garter morphs! Are they popular snakes to keep in Europe? There aren't a lot of big breeders in the states or Canada...I think its because they are so common in the wild.

Sadly they are much ignored in the UK. More popular in mainland western Europe although the trend favours corns and royals .... yawn

Beautiful snake. You are hooked.
They are always up to something and a joy to watch. Very interactive and curious about everything. I have some babies that come out and watch me vacuum.

She is lovely. Congrats :)

I love my garter's personallity. She is was more intertaining than my corns.

It's funny you mention that, Steve... I keep interpreting the fact that my babies come out and stand at attention whenever I get near their enclosure as a desire to be fed. (And am consequently being guilt-tripped into possibly overfeeding them.)

BUT, yesterday one of my cats discovered that we have new occupants in the (previously empty for a while) snake enclosure and spent a while with his nose against the glass. My elderly corn would usually react with alarm when a cat came by, but these garter babies had their noses right up against the other side of the glass, watching the cat!

(I suppose they could have been wondering if this new "person" was going to feed them, too... )

Always keep in mind that the cat/snake mix almost always ends in an death or injury to the snake. Please be careful. This curiosity will not kill the cat but will kill the snake.

Oh, absolutely! I wouldn't risk that - spent quite a while obsessing about secure but manageable cat-proofing strategies for my enclosure. The worst they can do is look through the glass at each other. :)

So as not to hijack this thread further, I posted a pic in my gallery showing what I came up with, if anyone else is interested.

Updated photos as of today....she's been eating GREAT....and not bad temperament either :).

Anyone think she looks gravid in these? (or maybe it was just the pinkies :P)
