Hey guys,

My larger female rubrilineatus just finished giving birth, 16 healthy babies, zero stillborns/jellies. I just looked at her 2 hours ago and she was still fat. I went back in and saw some strange movement... and there they were!!! They look really GREAT and theres one cute baby that has a random bright green splotch on the side of his/her head!!

Pictures will come in a bit :D

stay tunes for this developing story!

I'll go and take some pics now guys... I really hope Spot is a boy so I can keep him!!! haha...

anyone who is looking to get some of these, please PM me! Prattypus is first in line and has been since I originally got these girls but don't worry there should be enough to go around :D

Okay guys the results are in! I got a decent sex ratio of 6 males, 10 females! I have gotten to the point now, where I can actually guess which sex the babies are before I even pop them! And then popping confirms it... it's quite fun! That gives me one male to keep to pair with my girls in the future, and then 5 perfect trio's of babies to sell! (provided we have no failure's to thrive...) Not too shabby if you ask me!

Here are some pictures of the clutch.. oh, and Spot is a girl!

Some folks don't brumate them at all, and others use the fridge.

not brumating at all would be easier.
i wonder if that works for checkered

Yes, it works for Checkereds. I guess because their natural home range is warmer than that of many other Garters.
I've bred Checkereds numerous times without brumation. Incidentally, this species frequently breeds more than once a year.

i hav heard frm a local breeder the only way to no breed checkers is to keep them seperate. appaerently they take no stimulus and if housed together often breed 1-2 times a year?

wow... something must be wrong with my pair!!! haha, I even brumated them this year and all I got from Marcy were jellybeans. My male shows no interest. I do have a female from Rhea due to drop any day though!!!

When I had adult albino checkereds though... the male never, ever stopped trying!!!

Yes, that's what I have always found with marcianus. I've had three litters in a year a few times.
