I decided to give this male his own thread. While at the X in laws house today I was out doing a Garter rescue when I saw this head pop out of a railroad tie. Using some water and a small stick I finally got the little guy out. I have never seen a radix with a red head before. What do you think?

Here's the group that came home with me. Most will be released in the backyard.

LeAnn,
I just don't think I can do that. I don't know what kind of a radix he is. I know nothing about his family or his upbringing. He seem nice but that could just be the honeymoon stage. I don't want to send you a trouble snake.:D I'll think about it and get back to you.

Oh, I think I could handle him. I have raised 4 very different kids after all (well, mostly raised). What problems could he possibly give me that I haven't already dealt with?

I've got a fellow Garter fan driving(about 100 miles) in on Sat. to make a day of herping. He's very interested in this red-sided radix and we'll be returning to that neighborhood to do a number count on these guys. Hoping to see many more of them. Sound like I'll be getting my first T.sirtalis on that day. A female about 35 inches long. The week can't end soon enough for me.

That does sound like a really long female!

Your snake search sounds fun! I hope you can find some more like your beautiful male.

When I showed his photo to my 7 year old daughter she said, "fancy".

Very cool colors Steve. And bad any day herping is better than a good day at work.

Wait just a minute! What's Steve trying to pull here. That's not Opie. It can't be, Opie is a Male and that's a girl. That can only mean one thing. He has two now.
Yes, I have two, a pair. This ones name is Aunt B. Can't wait to see what Opie and her(disgusting thought) produce. This beautiful girl came from DesMoines Iowa yesterday. She was delivered with my T.sirtalis parietalis. It's been a great herping weekend.

So this is not your normal radix you have running around. :eek:WOW:eek:, love the red and so does my herper buddy here.

We were coming across our normal brown with an orange stripe the other day and came across a beaut. I’ll get pics soon but she has the irradiance color like that of a reticulated python. Just great coloring. Ah spring the fun time.:o

Side note thanks for the pennies Tina loved them

The Ranch has found a new top stud. His name is Opie. Last night he bred with a chosen female and tonight only minutes after placing him with a different female he's locked up again. He is THE MAN!

No he didn't. I won't let him at this point.
Since what I read and heard about the red in radixes and that red is bloodline, I'm breeding her with a red from her area.

Opie passed away this morning.
Not sure what was wrong. He was eating good and active.
He was with me for 2.5 years and was a pleasure.
WC snakes are alway a roll of the dice. I had no idea how old he was. I think the wild life is hard on them.
Although he never bred with any of my girls he was a good radix.
R.I.P. my buddy Opie.

Sorry about Opie, Steve. You gave him a great life.

He wasn't welcome where I found him which could have meant death for him.
This last year he became a nice little male to work with.
Always first out to eat. He actually started challenging some of the big females for food. I was so proud of him.
