View Full Version : Catching snakes in my sleep.

I wouldn't blame you if you called me a lier, heck I can hardly believe this myself.

For the last 6 months I have been sleeping in the radixes nusery to keep an eye on the young ones. You know, taking care of bad dreams, getting drinks of water, bathroom runs. All the normal stuff.
Up until a month ago I was sleeping on a foldout camping cot and then can the 6 foot display case. Now there's no room for the cot and I've been sleeping on a self-inflating matt. At 6:04 I was sound asleep dreaming about catching radixes. In the dream, I was lying on the ground reaching in a log for a snake. I felt the snake crawling through my hand and I grabbed it. This is when I woke up and realized I had a snake in my hand. An unknown female radixes that had gotten into the house was in my hand. At first I thought and hoped it was my boy scar. He is the only missing snake at this time. I put my glasses on to see if the boy had come home only to find this new female. She didn't musk me or make a lot of effort to get away.
I've heard of Herping in your sleep before but this is something else. She'll be stayng with us as she is a gorgous dark phase with a knockout orange dorsal. I've got a male here that I haven't posted about yet. He's the blackest radix I've ever seen. Those to together should make for some beautiful babies.

Now, they're volunteering to be caught.
It can't get any better than this!

I'm still shaking my head about the whole thing.

Even in sleep they pursue me:eek: I'm not complaining.

cool!!! I have had numerous snake catching dreams....all garters!!!!! I had the same sort of thing happen a few years ago....caught an escaped vagrans while sleeping....felt something moving....grabbed it, woke up and had a snake in my hands... :cool:

*UPDATE*

I'm starting to get freaked out. This girl started hand feeding pinkies, tonight. She came out of her hide and right up to me. Ate 5 pinkies. I've never had a WC start on pinkies before. She's settled in and after her quarenteen period will room with my dark, dark male.

I'm on an island here. Nobody else close to me is working with Garters, that I know of. I'm the only one who publicly supports the little creatures. I get a lot of strange looks when they hear I have anything to do with them. Boy, are they missing out. Just means more for me.
I'm sure I'll be tagged the "Crazy Garter Snake guy" in the future. Stories will be told to neighborhood children about me and my house. "HE'S GOT THOUSANDS OF SNAKES IN THERE AND HE FEEDS THEM SMALL CHILDREN" Other elderly people will be seen feeding the squirrels and birds. I'll be out talking to and hand feeding the radixes:D
I can see it now. Me in a pair of bib overalls, radixes hanging out of every pocket. The committment papers signed by a judge and the Sheriff's Dept. serving the papers. The deputies sent to get me will argue as to who has to transport, me since I smell like Garter musk.:eek: It'll be a thing of beauty.

you probably do smell sufficiently like non-stressed garter that they feel comfortable around you, even if they haven't met you before

LOL LOL ... I can so see that picture.... I get the same resonse when my friends find that I have yet again another snake. Started with only one Garter... now I have two and a baby ball python.

More likely, they'll be arguing who gets to go onto the property to arrest you. "Is you kiddin' Sherf? I ain't goin' in thar! Thems snake'll git me!"

Your right the guys I work with are a bunch of wimps when it comes to snakes. I get all the snake calls.

Instead of the nurses making statements like 'Make sure he takes his Meds. He hides them" it will be more like "Check his pockets for snakes, he hides them" The new nurses will ask "does he always talk to himself?" they'll be told "No, he's talking to the snakes":D
I'll have to smuggle earthworm into me room to feed the radixs I've collected.
I can't wait.
