Ok I just caught this Eastern Garter in my front yard. It stood out like a sore thumb in the dark grass/dirt. Can anyone tell me if they've seen or have one like it? I know what they are suppose to "normally" look like but this one is different. I plan on trying to prove it out if no one know what it is.
Photo shows his true color...

This photo is too dark but crisp...

Very pretty eastern. It reminds me of Scott Felzer's and Shannon's hypomelanistic easterns. Nice find!
edit-Wait a minute...Scott Felzer also shows a granite eastern on his website that looks very similar to the one you found.

Ok, so the granite has a different pattern? The one Scott shows looks like it has a normal (within eastern variability) pattern. What should the granite pattern be like? I know the granite checkereds are quite different in pattern from the normal, but what about the easterns?

That's the thing. You can name a odd snake you find whatever you want.If you look at a granite checkered, granite burmese python you can see what a granite should look like. There was what I would consider a granite posted on here before.I think somebody in europe owns it.The snake above has a normal pattern .Just different color.Granite is a pattern morph

BEAUTIFUL find. This snake resembles my own wild caught hypo eastern in a way, except mine is pale all over and has none of the dark areas like yours does. She's beautifully contrasted though. Mine also stuck out like a sore thumb, she literally glowed against the grass. Put me on the list for babies!

aSnakeLovinBabe would you e-mail me a pic of your wild caught eastern hypo? My find looks to be a male judging by the distance from his vent to the tip of his tail. I have yet to probe him, he's very very very...one more time...very agressive! The normal female I've got is calm compared to him. I hope he proves out, he's too beautiful not to. Maybe once I get babies going I can stud him out to your female. We'll talk more....

There's a silver eastern baby at the bottom of this page... it's not a great picture, but it shows the coloring pretty well:

Not quite...good news though...he's eating strips of rainbow trout (with the rib bones for calcium) with no problems. Next...pinkies fresh, these ASFs of mine are having babies on top of babies!!!! This way he'll be feeding on toads, trout and pinkies. And he's growing like a weed too!!.
Quick question...could I coat the trout strips with vita/mineral mix that my beardi uses for her roaches? Its a general calcium/mineral/vitamin mix.
I will post more pics and video in the future of the Cyclone eastern feeding on the trout! By the way my normal eastern female dropped her babies and is fattening up nicely. I think they'll pair up nicely....After/If the Cyclone proves out I will work on combos!:D

I love how even in the wild, you get amazing colorations like these.
aSnakeLovinBabe
10-19-2011, 07:30 PM
ALL of the weird and crazy colorations come from the wild. It's just a matter of finding the snake BEFORE a predator does. Snakes like this have a very poor chance of survival in the wild, and that is why they are very rare.

No, no...
There are too many snakes with eye shocking pattern...
I believe they just need the matching habitat and behavior to found a great dynasty
