Yea!!!! As I slowly am moving not-garters out of my collection... the empty spaces are filling back up... with thamnophis! Today just rocked. First, I picked up some snakes from Rhea:

remember the 4 red sideds she had born last week? They are now residing with me! It appears to be 1.3 of them. Thanks Rhea, they are beautiful little buggers, and now you'll get to watch them grow up big and strong! They had their first meal today, they all took chopped nightcrawlers off my tongs like they were pro's at it!

I also got this female checkered from Rhea, whom I learned is possibly gravid to a lime green male. Her eyes are GORGEOUS! To me, she does look like she's in the early stages of gravidity.

I also picked up this big female checkered from a buddy vendor of mine... she's BIG, and very friendly. But even the owls are afraid of this one.

So I am walking down the aisle before the show opens and I see some albino checkereds... no biggies cause I am not really interested in them... then the word HYPO catches my eye. I stop. I stare. No way. Is that REALLY one of those new super cool codominant Hypo checkereds??? For sale??? HERE?! At hamburg?! Turns out, it was true. And he only brought ONE to sell. He said his female hypo is gravid and she was bred to a male hypo, to see if there is a super form. This snake has a glow that's hard to capture with a camera. They really stand out. They only get better with age. The crazy head and neck pattern top it off. This is a male, and since this is codom, any female I breed this male to will produce hypos in the first generation!

I know he doesn't look like much now, but there is a definite difference between these hypos and other checkereds!!! You have to see it in person to really get it.

So just when I think I have enough checkereds to take over the world... A table with a bunch of normals catches my eye. Because one of them is so much brighter than the rest. So I figured, for $14, plently of space in the baby racks, and a beautiful glowing baby checkered that is even brighter than a proven-genetic hypo... what have I got to lose?! Even my boyfriend was able to pick this one out of the bunch. The lady was looking at me weird because I didn't want just any... I wanted THAT ONE.

So... I had a great day. Good show. Scored a nice morph. Can't possibly get any luckier... right? right....? wrong. Last aisle... I look to my right and yell OH MY GOD NO WAY THOSE ARE RUBRILINEATUS loud enough to get a whole bunch of people looking at me weird. But they were!! Red Striped Ribbons! He had three young adult females, sadly no males but he's going to try hard for next show. I grabbed the larger 2 for $35 each. They are flawless, beautiful, and surprisingly mild mannered for ribbons. I love them. I love today. I love reptile shows. I love thamnophis!!

She is definitely over 3 feet, and is possibly close to 4. They get pretty big, I have actually seen them still larger and thicker than her!!!

ARGH! I feel like Charlie Brown and Lucy just yanked the football! Little jealous! I found out there is a reptile expo in May, but it looks like pythons are monopolizing the tables thus far.

***Great find on the Red Stripe-- I would like to throw this out--
If anyone comes across one to sell, please let me know- I will
tack on a service fee if someone is able to grab one for me- female would rock, but since I am not a breeder- it really doesn't matter.

haha tell me about it! But want to know something crazy?! there is still free space in the snakeroom. 5 of the 8 top enclosures in my wood units are empty. The baby rack is empty, except for 8 tubs. Fortunately, I buy all my foods in bulk and when I make fish jello, let me tell you I MAKE FISH JELLO!! The fact that out yard has 58385 nightcrawlers per square foot helps as well. But as I said, as I acquire more garters, the other stuff is slowly being phased out. My pair of house snakes for example, is sold to a friend of mine on another forum. Once that tank opens up, I think I may bump the blacknecks up into that out of their 10 gallon :D

I am not sure how old she is, he had her for a few months and then sold her to me yesterday for $35. She's probably at least 4 or 5 years old. She has that mature look about her that the youngun's just don't have. It's hard to explain. But, if fed well your female could reach this size no problem within a year or two!

Not at all :D Thankfully the drive is only 45 minutes. We keep a cooler in the truck and put the frozen rodents on one side, the garters on the other. Because it was really hot out!

Awesome.... I always would catch garter back home in Montana, as a child, but they were never really that big. So i guess i had this assumption that they would stay about the size that they are now.
