I think it's Araneus cucurbitinus, but one or two things look a bit wrong....can I have a side view, to confirm?

I googled the name...Araneus cucurbitinus But it doesnt look like thats is the one..Or it should shed a few more times...The 'mouth' looks a bit different and the legs dont really match...

In some ways it looks like one of the Dictyna...but I can't find a match. Also the eye grouping is very much Araneus. How about a pic of the web?

Can anyone be bothered Googling 'Dictynidae' and searching the list for a match? (Stefan:rolleyes:)....I think that's where you'll find your answer. It's not a spider I've ever seen.

Yeah, but you had a typo in Dictynidae, so that doesn't count. ;) :D

But I wouldn't have known where to look if you hadn't suggested that, I wouldn't have gotten it right if google hadn't offered to correct your spelling and I definitely wouldn't have figured out Nigma, if some Czech website (coincidentally, the same website Sjoerd linked to) hadn't had a picture of that species. :D

Type what you want to know, like your talking to a small child...Make things as complete, but as simple as possible...

The spider in your picture looks more like Amourobius similis (or maybe A. fenestralis). Maybe that's what you call a House Spider in the Netherlands?

A tripod really makes a difference. I have two, one proper that I originally bought for my spotting scope and a cheap mini tripod that really comes in handy when taking macro shots. If I had a proper camera I'd probably use the other one a lot more, now it's only useful indoors, especially when I'm taking pictures of my snakes. :)

Thanks guys. I always look at this thread and I've thought about posting before, but everyone else's photo always look so much better than mine ever turn out. These are the only ones I'm not ashamed of. I have one of an old barn where I go snake hunting, but there is only the barn and the trees around it, so I didn't post that one.

Ok, I've found Black rat snakes, Fox snakes, and Ribbon snakes here. Too far from water for garters, I find them down below in the wetlands. Never found a hognosed snake around the barn either, the ground isn't sandy enough and they like to burrow in sand during the day and wait for frogs and toads.

I found two that I took in North Dakota when I lived there for 2 years. I was going through some old cd's that I had backed up my computer on to see what all was there. The one of the ducks was actually taken in MN while I was visiting a friend. I can't find the ones I took of the geese, there were thousands! But I'll keep looking.

As long as my photos can't be compared to a professional photographer's, I don't consider myself good. :) The fact that I don't use the same equipment, doesn't make my pictures good either.

Besides, I use image processing tools to improve many of my pictures. I bet most people here don't.

the moth was brought home by my neighbor, I photographed it and let it go.
That moth is from the western u.s.

I really don't see the tarantulas all that often, unfortunately. There used to be more out here, but there's been a lot of development in my subdivision in the past few years. I used to have tons of scorpions that would get in the house - one stung me good when it was hiding on the underside of the tongue of my shoe... got me on the top of the foot about 5 times before I got free >:| I used to be terrified of both, now I keep a few tarantulas and scorpions as pets, lol.

I think the patchnose was probably hunting baby Mediterranean geckos when my cat violently interrupted it, lol. It was right after I got my baby ball python, and my cat, Idgie, brought the patchnose to me while I was working at my desk, dropped it at my feet and bellowed. I think she recognized it as one of those slithery things I was playing with the night before, lol.

My neighbor's seen a coral snake and a skink this year, and called me over to see the coral, so I grabbed my camera and ran, but it was already gone :( She didn't tell me about the skink because she figured I'd try to catch it and keep it, lol.

I didn't see many striped fence lizards this year, but hopefully I can get some pics of those in the Spring. They're adorable :)

The unknown snake looks like a juvenile Dolichophis caspius (Coluber caspius), IMO.

I didn't know the exact spicies, but I knew it wasn't venomous.
look at the vipera (I love it to sjoerd!) big head, and the zig-zag markings, that are thing to look at, and the unknown snake doesn't look venomous at all.

Not shamrocks. This is common wood sorrel (Oxalis acetosella). It's sour and makes a nice snack when you're out in the woods. ;)

Shamrocks are usually actual clovers, but it appears that the name is applied to just about any plant that has roughly the same appearance. Sorrels do grow in the kind of places you described.

I called them shamrocks because they look just like the shamrock plants they sell at the flower shop at this time of year. But sorrel would definitely be more correct. We nibble on the stuff too when we're out hiking (we call it sour clover). :)

me and my freinds used to go camping once a year and there was this ant hill with tonns of giant red ants that bit hard and then there was lots of black wood ants (also giant) wed collect them put them together and they would fight, the best part was when my freind took the fire ants in his tent for the night but the lid wasnt properly closed he woke up at like 3 am screaming

I inadvertently dig up so many ant's nests when I'm gardening that I don't even notice anymore when they're frantically climbing up my arms and legs!!
The only time I have a problem is when they decide they want to move indoors -- had a fun time last summer with a bunch who found the cupboard with my baking supplies in it!!

Tremble in fear at my hour of after school accomplishments, mortals!
I traversed the grounds of the local forest for snakes, found a few possible den sites, but to no snaky avail. I did, however, see the first frog and turtle of the season and put it in the area's wildlife center's record book.
Also, I got a picture of a fish species that has not been seen in the lake in it's existence: a dogfish. So, enjoy! :D (First link's pics, the one after this post will be a video.)

Indeed! I've also been trying to get some hovering honey bee / bumble bee pics, but the sun isn't warm enough so only few are moving around these days...Cant wait till spring really kicks in!
