Today(Sat.) it was beautiful outside. The kids and I were doing some spring cleaning around the outside of the house. Raking and bagging leaves. The basement window wells, which are full of leaves usually produce a few sleeping radixes and this year was no exception. The bigger one, a male is being held by my daughter Gabby. The smaller one(female) is being held by my oldest daughter Emmyjo. We'll keep them for awhile since near freezing temps(at night) are still in the area for another week. Then it's back outside for these little guys. The male has a couple of small abrasions that need a some attention, so their arrival was well timed or should I say planned:rolleyes:

Thank you, Rhea.

I've notice a lot of brown showing up in the area radixes over the last year or so.
It's almost a dark carmal color. I'll get a couple of close-ups and post them. Here's on e from yesterday. Doesn't do the brown color justice. This is the male.

While out collecting some fresh breakfast for my newborns I found this little girl buried in the mulch pile.

I came home for lunch today and found a beautiful male radix sunning on my deck. I brought him in so my kids could get a look at him before he goes back out. Then, just as I was leaving I went to close the back patio door. In the dining room was another male. I had left the door and screen open and I guess he came in, exploring. Of course, he may just have been moving in. I'll hold on to him also, until the kids get home from school.
I love it. I don't have to go looking anymore. They come to me.:)

Today, I've caught 3 male radixes. One will stay and the other two are out the door after a check-up.

I finally saw my first female of the year. I was out catching a few worms when I spotted this girl by my back deck. She's definitely old enough to breed and from the looks of her cloaca she may have bred today. Since I found 3 males around the same area I think the chances are pretty good I'll be seeing some babies later this summer. Sorry about the picture quality.
