Here are a few x-rays of my radixes.
My Vet. was nice enough to let me borrow them for awhile(he better for the money I give him):D
I wonder if I can get a cheap x-ray machine off ebay????? maybe craigslist.

Very interesting pictures, Steve. :)

I would personally stay away from X-rays, the radiation isn't something I'd want to expose my snakes (or myself) to without a very good reason. A sonographic scanner (ultrasound) could also be useful, though.

My interest was more of a joke than serious. I agree with you on the radiation concern. I also don't what to get that made scientist label in the neighborhood, bringing in large medical devices. The locals already think I'm touched since I take care of Garter snakes.:D I never thought about an ultra sound. That idea I will look into. I'm also trying to locate a cheap handheld fetal heart rate monitor(Doppler). Hoping a OBGYN in the area will have an old one they want to part with. I might see if they want to loan one to me just so I can do some recordings. Ebay has them but $400.00 is out of my league. Thought it would be cool for the kids to listen to heartbeats/respiration. I think it would be cool also. Thanks for the idea.

I've never tried to scan an x-ray. Have you done it before? Mine are photos. I have a large x-ray viewer and with a high res. camera it does very well. I also had to enhance the photos, taking out all shadowing. It really made them look pretty good.

Well, since this weekend has been a bust on saving money I decided to take Speckle in to get a x-ray. The word is that she's gravid and is heavy with eggs. The Vet thinks they are still developing since the eggs are not very big. He told me to expect a large(40+) clutch if they get fertilized.

This Garter (also a radix) had a kidney stone which is clearly visible. Unfortunately this snake died a few days after surgery. Please excuse the poor quality, the x-ray is over 15 years old and has begun to fade. It still shows the problem though.

Here's another x-ray photo of Speckle. A lot of detail with this one. Turned out nice.
Rather neat to see where the neck ends and the ribs begin.
