I was checking out my snakes to see if there were any signs of anyone having bred....my orange is probably gravid....I can feel lumps in her and she is starting to show. I think one of my red spots is gravid...thats the good news....bad news is I have seen no signs in any other snakes that they have bred.......

First comes the "Be-Gett'in busy" and then comes the "Be-Gatt'in babies."

I apologize for the lame humor I just couldn't resist!

Hello Don,
you must not expect each female to be gravid each year.
In wild garter population there´s only every other captured female gravid in June/July.
And to give you a little additional hope I shall tell that I´ve had several clutches without any sign of maturity. And the season has just begun, so there´s a lot of time to become thick and maternal:D

I have never caught a adult female in may june that was not gravid. At least in pa.

I don't expect all females to be gravid...was hoping for more than 2 tho....oh well....as I increase my number of adults this year, the percentage of females breeding next year should be higher. I have had an occasional one pop that didn't look gravid too!

thanks! I can't wait for spring to get here and stay....will be able to take new photos of everyone outside with my new camera!!
I don't know for sure which male bred with her....didn't see any signs of breeding so I out the red x snow male in with her. the snow (not sure whether Iowa or Nebraska) comes from an albino gene....could get albinos....not sure which....if the male from the same litter as her was the lucky father...could have all 3, Iowa, Nebraska, and Christmas....and hopefully Christmas Nebraska!!!!! will keep everyone posted!!

Calm down, Don. Before you vaporlock.
It will be okay. Take a couple deep breaths, relax. That's it. That's it.
Now, let nature take it's course, and
KEEP US INFORMED !!!!!

some are farther along than others....I put the golden x anery with the male together in early january, the rest were put together around mid january...were left together for a month...some bred right away, others later.....
