i just found Oliver, the male maritime I got from Reed - dead
I'm still numb and in disbelief
I'd been worried about him about a month ago, because he took so long to start eating after brumation, but he liked the trout mix, seemed to be gaining some weight, and I really didn't feel concerned any more
this is a bit of a shock - he was a real sweet guy

thanks everybody - i know you know what it's like
somehow I'd been breathing these secret sighs of relief, that all my animals had been spared from the curse - I guess it was too soon to be sure
I"m paying extra attention to Jade, the female from Reed, who is also a little bit of a finicky eater
she'll take worms any time, fish pieces sometimes, the trout gelatin sometimes, but she prefers salmon, if anyfish
I've never gotten her to take rodent and I'd be happy if I could just get her to take the fishgel regularly - will make a batch of salmon for her
Reed tells me that her preferred food is live minnow, and if that's the case, I'm almost wondering whether it'd be worth getting some, just to see whether I can switch her to rodents in the same way that's worked for a couple of my most stubborn live fish eaters
she's not thin or anything, but she doesn't have the bulk I'd like to see on a potentially gravid female
any suggestions to help her diet along are greatly welcomed

The minnows might just be what she needs to get excited about eating rodents. I would think it would be worth a try, at least.
