it's from Kansas City....I emailed the guy...here's the reply...

A kid that use to work for me found a gravid female here in Kansas City.
Four of the babies came out like the one in the photo. He brought this one
by the store and I asked him where the other three were that looked like
this one. He said his cat had eaten them. I asked him if I could have this
one before it was killed and he said ok. He told me he found the female
behind his apartments and after she had the babies he let her go. I don't
plan to sell the baby. Thanks for the email, Mark

wouldn't mind a few....

It sure isn't pretty, but it certainly may possibly have some strong genetic potiential, and definately a new and unique snake. I sure hope the guy (Mark?) keeps it alive and breeds it to prove or disprove if and what the genetics are.

I am personally not a big fan. One of the biggest atrattractions of Garters for me is the natural contrast in the checker board pattern. That look gives is too much of a Racer feel. Maybe its just me?

In the line with my experiences about color changing in other hypo- or amelanistic garters, I´m excited to see what he will be like when he becomes adult. It´s hard to imaging that big difference to a normal colored red sided.

I don't like it either... ugly in my eyes. I agree that it's different.

I don't know if I'd want one, but I think it looks pretty spiffy. It reminds me of that condition where people have the big swaths of color on their faces and arms.

quite honestly, that is the ugliest garter I have ever seen!!! lol

I would be ecstatic if i found it, but I still find it quite uneasy on the eyes haha... that's without a doubt the classic white-sided gene, it has found it's way into yet another species of snake.

You're probably right Tom. I like it in that I think it's a very unique and valuable specimen. It's quite unfortunate that it's mom and siblings weren't taken better care of.

Lets be honest Tom, you or I would absolutely love to have that snake in our collection, I know I certainly would, and would probably pay a pretty penny too. I know someone or maybe several someones probably already made the guy an offer:D

I want to find something myself.I catch a ton of garters every year.I did find one that was very light in color that was about it.I would'nt mind having that snake .I actually have a pair of redsides.I kind of specialize in easterns though.

well dont get me wrong guys, I do think its really ugly, but I would NOT mind finding it or having a few of them down the road... it is yet another unique and valuable trait to add to the growing repetoir of garter morphs out there, and I am really glad that the last one was saved before being eaten by a cat. It just makes you wonder, how many unknowing families have morphs like this born every year and dont think twice about letting them go and the cat eating some of them? But yea, by saying its ugly, I didn't mean to undermine that it was still a cool find or that I would not consider having them. I think wanderings are pretty ugly but I still like having them!!!

tom just come herping with me!! hahaha...I seem to have a knack for coming across pretty cool garters... sure, my hypo and flame are not quite as extreme as this guy but theyre still pretty darned cool!!! I am hoping to score the mom, dad, or siblings of my WC flame back on the farm this year.

I agree it certainly is more natural and is some ways easier to specialize in what you have locally, that is why I prefer the radix and red-sideds over the easterns, although I have to admit the easterns definately have a lot more natural variation and potiential. Thats why I would love to have a lucy red-sided, only problem is they are such a strong trait that you aren't likely to make any significant combos really, just more lucys, of course you never know till you try it, and I sure would waste some time and energy trying, but if they aren't pretty they may not become "really" popular anyway, just novelties for the collectors. It really does make you wonder how many morphs are overlooked out there, or "eaten by the cat"
